So the governor of Texas wants to wave the 10th Amendment around?
http://www.news8austin.com/content/your_news/default.asp?ArID=237474

<snip>
Gov. Rick Perry is throwing his support behind a House resolution that would reaffirm states' rights under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

He said Texas is in far better economic shape than the federal government, and that interference from Washington could only hurt the state.

"I believe the federal government has become oppressive," Perry said. "It's become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of its citizens and its interference with the affairs of our state."

One supporter of the resolution compared the current relationship between the Texas and federal governments to a bad marriage.
<snip>

Here we go again, another Southern state rambling on about "states rights". Hey Texas, how'd that work out for you last time you tried that shit? Funny how you were just fine with Bush trampling all over your civil rights. But now that there's a Democrat in office (oh how it must eat you up that it's a black Democrat at that), you suddenly want to start screaming "states rights" bullshit.

How about if we cut off ALL federal money to Texas? How well do you really think you'd survive on your own? How far do you think you'd get if the US were to pull out ALL federal assets? That means closing all US military installations, closing down the space center in Houston, EVERYTHING.

As one of your favorite icons once said, "go ahead - make my day".

6. It's the only thing they have...
"Trickle-Down Economics" is a fraud
Reaganism is dead
They have be grossly hypocritical with regard to their "platform" as the "Party of..."
1) Fiscal Responsibility™
2) Family Values™
3) Limited Spending™
4) Small Government™
5) Moral Values™
...the list goes on.

Plus, GOPers are now aligned with torture, out-of-control capitalism, and illegal spying on Americans.

Now it's the 10th Amendment. It's all they have...

Kinda pathetic...:nopity:

11. Your table doesn't tell the whole story
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 11:57 AM by Tempest
California is ranked third, but it pays in more to the federal government than it gets back.

At $173 per capita in your table, California gives the federal government $221 per capita (California only receives back about .82 cents for every dollar it contributes).

Texas gets back .97 for every dollar they contribute.

13. Not my table, I provided the source. The stats you quote include fed. programs such as military
bases and states with small populations and several military installations, e.g. AL, do show high overall ratios of fed fund receipts to taxes paid.

I was just pointing out a different way of looking at federal funds based on different stats.

Perhaps one could argue that states with small populations and several military bases need less welfare funds because of the jobs provided by those bases?

20. Local news just said that the area that Perry spoke at is due to get 100's of thousands of $
FEDERAL dollars...for flood control in Northern Tarrant County. Soooo...all those people in the stands he was speaking to will be having their homes saved from floods by the very same federal gov that they protested against today.
And I guess "crowd of 5,000" is in the repuke talking points. Just like that faux news guy tried to get the guy at his teabagging to say that there had to be "5,000 people" there, our news is saying that 5,000 people showed up to hear Perry speak in the stadium.
