His work has appeared in many publications, including the Wall Street Journal, where he had a regular column from 1980 to 1990.

The author focuses on America's fascination with the concept of truth in his history of the lie detector, a device invented in the 1920's by John Larson and Leonarde Keeler. Mr. Larson did not want to see the device used commercially, and its sale for general application by Mr. Keeler lead to the dissolution of the inventors' relationship.

In his book "Leviathan on the Right," author Michael Tanner criticizes the Republican party for using big-government tactics to serve conservative ends. Mr. Tanner warns that the party’s recent move toward greater spending and regulation are indications that it has strayed from the traditional conservative belief in limited government. Commenting during this event is former republican representative Dick Armey (R-Texas) who is critical of congressional republicans and President Bush for their "big government" tendencies.

Michael Tanner is director of health and welfare studies at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC. He is the editor of the book "Social Security and Its Discontents." Daniel Casse is Senior Director of the White House Writers Group and a former special assistant to President George W. Bush. Dick Armey (R-TX) was a U.S. congressman for 18 years and served as majority leader from 1995 to 2003.

Historian Donald Miller discusses the sacrifices of American airmen serving in Europe during WWII. In his talk, given at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Poole, Georgia, Mr. Miller notes that by D-Day in June of 1944, over 10,000 U.S. airmen had been killed during bombing missions. Donald Miller discusses the effectiveness of the bombing, the techniques used, the extremely harsh conditions inside the bombers, and the decisions regarding bombing targets. Much of the author's research was done at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum.

Donald Miller is the author of eight books including "D-Days in the Pacific", "The Story of World War II: Revised, (expanded, and updated from the original text by Henry Steele Commanger)", and "City of the Century: The Epic of Chicago and the Making of America." In "Nemesis" Mr. Johnson argues that the U.S. is in now on the verge of internal collapse, due in large part to the vast expenditures required to maintain its ever-expanding empire. He discusses his book with California based author Gray Brechin at an event hosted by KPFA Radio and Global Exchange.

Chalmers Johnson is currently the president of the Japan Policy Research Institute. He taught Asian politics at the Berkeley and San Diego campuses of the University of California for thirty years before retiring in 1992. The author is a military historian who was embedded with the 1st Platoon of Lima Company, 1st Marine Regiment in Iraq. During this talk at the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago, Mr. O'Donnell describes how he met Lima company and combat situations he witnessed iwhen the company was ambushed and were assigned to the battle of Fallujah. He discusses several Marines he met who were killed in action, and how the experience of fierce combat changed his view of war.

Patrick K. O'Donnell began recording oral histories of WWII veterans shortly after graduating from college.
