I owe taxes this year.....
...my fault, I underestimated my estimated, so I end up owing the Treasury money. Also, and this is for the lurking teabaggers, you don't see me whining about it.

Now, go have a big group hug and teabag yourselves, teabaggers.

2. I'm being audited this year.
For '06 and '07.

Something in my schedule A triggered it, and I'm spending my free time going through receipts, etc. and organizing documentation.

3. We do too
we underpaid over the year. Oh well we had the money for a while as opposed to a interest free loan.

We pay about 12% as usual.

4. We owe this year, every year actually. Have been unemployed for 6 mos.
My husband was just approved for SS Disability at a one fourth of our original income, so I am kinda whining. :silly: Guess the Treasury needs our $2000 more than we do, right now. x(

5. Meanwhile, UBS of Switzerland maintains 50,000 accounts for American tax cheats
And at the slightest hint of the IRS going after some of these (last heard it was 300), the tax cheats are calling their lawyers crying about what to do if they're the ones "caught"...

Oh, and the IRS is offering a kind of amnesty for these tax cheats--a kind of "if you come forward voluntarily, we'll take only the taxes owed with no (or minimal) fees or penalties."

6. I'm Hoping For A Wash...
Revenues and interest was down last year but I paid the first two quarterlies at the '07 rate...when things were a lot rosier. I ended up taking a loss and figure that what I've paid in along with deductions should 0 things out.

I just saw that lying asshat Stephen Moore trying to claim that small businesses will be taxed at 90% and how Obama is raising everyone's taxes. The misinformation on this topic is so rampant.

7. We did too
and paid them by credit card. It will take us a long time to pay off, but we believe paying taxes is our duty as citizens. I hate hearing the repukes endlessly whine about it. They can go suck teabags.

THAT SAID, I wish Obama would fire the jackasses who come up with the bizarre, convoluted tax formulas that drive everyone crazy, and replace them with people who can produce simple, understandable tax forms. I had to call the IRS with a question about calculating the penalty, and even the guy I spoke with didn't understand the process very well. Hell, I don't even know how to fill out a W-4 form any more, they're that complicated.

People would resent the IRS less if it were more user-friendly and all its forms and instructions were easy for the average person to understand.

8. I owe the IRS a bit over $500 this year
I had enough withheld to avoid any penalty.

I'm happy to pay my fair share. Paying taxes is indeed a patriotic act, but it does also convey license to take issue with how much we are being taxed and what the money is used for. It's kind of like voting in that respect.

9. I have to pay every year.
That's because I'm single and claim 2 dependents throughout the year. When I file I drop one dependent, so I end up paying. But at least I get the money during the year and don't have to wait for a refund.

12. This year I paid an amount that would equal a very nice.........
middle class income salary. Actually I paid more than I pay myself in yearly salary.
I am not used to being in this situation but if I paid that much then I earned that much more and I am not going to complain.
