Now the drywall problem ?

We spent years getting the children out of the houses with lead paint until it could be corrected, and now we buy toys from China with lead paint.

Where is Walmarts public conscious.

Were are our State and Federal Commerce Departments ?

1. We need to demand that China not be allowed to poison us any longer. Made in USA only.

last and last. It would last forever. Now, it falls apart. Sometimes it looks like crap after a few washings.

I have some articles of clothing that I bought in europe that were made in Sweden and Italy. After 15 years I still wear them and they still look pretty good. It is not like that with things you buy that are made in China.

4. I still wear my old Army fatigues & field jacket issued in 1970.
They're faded but still useful. My 1975 KitchenAid dishwasher still works. My 1969 Oster blender still works. My 1965 Zenith table radio I used in college still works. My 1971 German-made Dual turntable still works. My 25-year-old American made microwave still works. CD players, toaster ovens, radios, and other crap I've purchased from China last less than 5 years and then goes to the recycle place.

8. Most of the Chinese crap I've bought is useless after a year (if that)
Chinese tools for instance are garbage. They are cheap imitations of the real thing. Chinese high speed drill bits might go through thin metal, but only once, then they are only good for burning their way through wood (if it's not too thick). Power tools are quite likely to fail at any time. It's just plain junk!

Now I only buy quality tools (preferably U.S. made), even though I have to pay more. There is no savings in buying crap that you have to keep replacing.

9. I've noticed the same. Socks, dress shirts, even jeans.
Chinese stuff sucks, sucks, sucks AND my fucking job was shipped over there!

I'm starting to get pretty resentful of China.

3. Apart from those token signs in their customer service area, they have no public consciousness
Nor is it their business to regulate Chinese factories and toxic or not, it's profitable so don't ask them to change.

5. No no no.
If you start investigating imported goods,

it would increase the time to the shelves,

which would in turn create the need to keep more in inventory while waiting for other goods to clear testing...

which would lead to higher prices...

which would make imported goods less profitable...

which would lead to locally produced goods to be more competitive...

which would of course be madness. And isolationist. And and and...

Kind of throws a wrench in the whole process, doesn't it? :-)

(for the sarcasm impaired, I'm all for requiring standards and testing)

6. I just saw a headline
about upholstery on couches made in China is causing all sorts of rashes and other disorders.

Well, we sold out and like they give a fuck.

We are owned by China and they can do whatever the fuck they want....................

7. Chinese goods
I beg to differ, the time to investigate was years ago. Remember the tommy train, the poisoned pet food? I lay the blame at the feet of Wal-Mart, they have been scamming us for years.

10. Walmart is 1 of the reason China become a manufacturing superpower.
Walmart wants the cheapest of the cheap. That doesn't necessarily equate with safe.
