Congress Investigates Plans To Target '08 Dems
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sought more information yesterday about a presentation by a White House aide given to political appointees at the General Services Administration that discussed targeting 20 Democratic congressional candidates in the next election.

In a letter to White House political affairs director Karl Rove, the committee chairman, Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), asked about the Jan. 26 videoconference by Rove deputy J. Scott Jennings, which was directed to the chief of the GSA and as many as 40 agency officials stationed around the country.

4. rather than only reporting on Waxman's committe's work... perhaps
the WaPo should engage in investigative journalism to try to track down what other similar meetings Mr. Jennings has set up in other federal agencies. I am pretty certain that this was not an isolated event.

35. I doubt the Media could have unearthed any of this without the power of the subpoena
It is through witness testimony that these things are coming to light. That isn't to say they couldn't try a bit harder though. I am tired of hearing about Anna Nicole.

use official authority or influence to interfere with an election
solicit or discourage political activity of anyone with business before their agency
solicit or receive political contributions (may be done in certain limited situations by federal labor or other employee organizations)

Penalties for Violating the Hatch Act

14. First you have to say
That republicans targeting democrats for the 2008 elections is not illegal. What the hell is illegal and it is illegal is to use, government space, government employees and government resources to do it.

This is what makes this so egregious. The sewer mind dirty trick turd blossom KNOWS that it is illegal. But see, they don't care. They think they own the government and can do what they want. Until now. And when the democrat oversite committees et al are putting the brakes on them they are figuring out ways to continue.

I think the committee's next priority is to get rove - for anything they can and lock the wilted turd bastar* up. Gosh Almighty I can't wait for the day.

15. K&R - hard to imagine how much more will come out as Waxman/Leahy/Conyers proceed
Oversight may be the single most important part of the check and balance system we have - without the Nov '06 elections one can only shudder at where the Chimp and his minions may have taken the country by the end of '08.

16. Most. Corrupt. Regime. Ever!
It's official. Republicans hate democracy. I knew they did. Still, there was some small part of me that wanted to believe the fuck-ups of '00 and '04 were just mistakes.

It is fortunate for Bush that this is not ancient Rome. Otherwise, he might find himself bleeding on the floor of the Rotunda at the base of Clinton's statue.

30. I thought some of those names looked familiar.
16 won Repug seats on Nov 7th, Rodriguez beat a Repug in Dec 2006 (Texas redistricting ruled illegal). DO YOU SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING? They are going to target newly won seats and if looks too fishy claim that 2006 had to be a fluke. I don't know the story about the SD-AL seat, that's an incumbent Dem. I think the 2 Georgia seats were in newly drawn districts.

Have I told you how much I hate these people? (Streaming Malloy)

28. By God, the corruption runs ever -deeper, doesn't it? Loyal Bushie = Loyal Commie
Edited on Fri Mar-30-07 06:28 PM by tom_paine
They REALLY tried to take over Totalitarian style, to basically turn our systems into One-Party Nazi/Soviet/ChiCom/Papa Doc/Pinochet/Marcos/Whatever-the-fuck-you-want-to-call-it.

I had hoped beyond hopes that this was one thing I was wrong about.

But no...not wrong. Once again I could not believe (even though in my heart-of-hearts I knew it was true) that the Busheviks, the Loyal Bushies, the Loyal Lite-Nazis, they really did try to tear apart our beautiful, magnificent system of Checks and Balances, of the relative fairness of our laws, piece by piece.

I can almost close my eyes and see this type of Commie Party bullshit going on in EVERY government OFFICE.

Serve the COUNTRY FIRST, not the PARTY FIRST, you bastards!

These felons MUST be indicted and impeached, for the systemic damage they have done is so great, the cancer they have (probably) spread to every level and corner of our government.

BUSHEVIK COMMIE BASTARDS!

What have they done? What have we allowed them to do? Can we repair this?

32. I don't get it...WHY are they making this huge effort
to rig the '08 election? As the Freepers never get tired of telling me, Bush can't run again. (They are always pooh-poohing the idea of Democratic candidates "running against Bush" when he's already had two terms.)

But it looks like the BushBots are making an extraordinary effort to rig this next election, to the point of putting in their hand-picked Bushie stooges as U.S. Attorneys in key states well ahead of time, so they will be in position to suppress the Democratic vote when the time comes.

I just can't figure out what their game is. I can understand all the Rovian dirty tricks in 2000 and 2002 and 2004 and 2006. But 2008? Are they planning on running Jeb after all, or is Dubya going to annoint himself president-for-life aka dictator?
