Got a few hours to spare? - THE most informative thread I've ever found on DU
.
.
.

American history - read the posts, follow the links,

heck - it's had me transfixed for over 2 hours -

amazing info

I even followed some of the sub-links at the links

American History from the "discovery" of America to CIA plots interfering with other nations' governments.

Absolutely riveting

Stuff you were never taught in high school American History courses

kudos to all the DUers that contributed to that thread!

2. I would love to
if DU had a way to do printer friendly with replies, which I don't think it does.

I would love to just explore, but I'm on dialup......

4. I'm also on dial-up - it is mostly text, not graphics - the time spent was READING
.
.
.

give it a try

I almost quit some of the long articles, but it was so amazing!

I'm gonna go back later and even delve into it more.

The links and info are REALLY captivating.

Some of the links are not working,

so I googled to find new/existing links on the same item/subject.

AMAZING reading.

I learned more about some of USAmerican history in a few hours than I have in decades.

And I'm a curious son of a bitch!

5. I will do that, thank you.
I'm a curious bitch, myself....!

I bookmarked the original thread.

I'm really sick of being spoonfed history. We are the greatest country in Earth's history, IMHO, but we are far, far, far from perfect.

There, was that so hard.... ;)

I'd been clicking on the one at the bottom right of the post, which behaves differently from the one you suggested.

Who knew...?! Thanks! To all!

18. Edward Abbey came up with some profoundly important truths
If you have never read him, do try sometime. He made some interesting points about modern life being not the greatest lifestyle.

19. Thank you much - and here are a few of his quotes for DUers to ponder . .

One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain't nothin' can beat teamwork.

Taxation: how the sheep are shorn.

The tragedy of modern war is that the young men die fighting each other - instead of their real enemies back home in the capitals.

When a man's best friend is his dog, that dog has a problem.

On edit:

I have to add for the other DUers - there's MANY quotes from different people at the link:

Consider George Carlin's comment:

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.

oh yeah he said that - more than once

13. Well here is one that i thought was informative.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Time%20for%20change/450
And just about anything by Time For Change or H2O man I found interesting and usually on target.
And thee are more but I don't want to leave anyone out that is deserving like Kpete and Babalonsister.
the problem with big boards like this is that it is possible to miss a lot of good stuff, and I do all the time just like I missed the one you posted.

Now I'm going back to read the links:

especially the ones mentioned here

" our many imperialistic activities, covert overthrowing of sovereign governments, and aggressive wars are minimized or ignored altogether"

see y'all in a couple of hours!

Thanx zeemike :hi:

15. I probably should have also mentioned Will Pitts
He is more of a damn fine storyteller
And in a recent post he gave a history lesson on the Evacuation Day in Boston that I found very interesting. I had only vague knowledge of it before and he has a way of telling stories in a few words and make you understand them. But he does not give a lot of links.

.

I keep following the links - which even lead to MORE links.

I wonder how many USAmericans realize that Iran was a democracy in the early 50's,

and the CIA effected a coup to put the shaw back in power?

Guess what it was about?

yup

oil.

No WONDER the Iranians do not trust the USA!
