President Obama Says America Has Shown 'Arrogance'
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 12:15 PM by bigtree
At a town hall meeting before a mix of French and German citizens, President Obama said he came to Europe to "renew partnerships" and repair relations between the United States and its allies that had been damaged because of the Iraq War. "We must be honest with ourselves," the president said. "In recent years, we've allowed our alliance to drift." Obama said the United States was partly to blame because "there have been times where America's shown arrogance and been dismissive, "even derisive” towards its allies.

2. The context in which this was said
is important. He pointed out the weaknesses of our allies as well. He said we both need to change.

3. True, we've "Shown 'Arrogance" but we paid for that privilege with hundreds of billions of dollars
in foreign aid since WWII.

We've been naughty but we've also been nice.

7. I don't think it was pure generosity
It was about gaining power.

4. The assholes with their "Freedom fries" on Bush**'s AF1 was a small thing,
but it showed the stupidity of a lot of 'Muricans.

5. Chimpy's ears should be burning
I'm sure that everyone in the hall knew exactly what he was talking about. But watch the reporters in the U.S. media evince either complete bafflement or toxic poutrage as to the casting of asparagus on the Bush administration.

6. one of Obama's GREATEST traits is that he doesn't lie or deny
the uncomfortable, humbling truth.

The last administration used 9/11 to parade around like cowboy vigilantes who owned the world- "yer either with us, or with the terrarists". "freedom fries" "old europe" twisting arms and threatening to withdraw aid that was intended to help the most vulnerable, if a nation had the guts to say they thought what Bush wanted to do was wrong?

Pres. Obama is the polar opposite of GW Bush when it comes to arrogance. Yet he displays poise, wisdom, great intelligence and leadership qualities that this nation so desperately needs.

I'm very VERY pleased with his humility and honesty. While I don't agree with him on everything- I believe he is doing an incredibly good job at helping us step back from the abyss and helping us see the reality of where we stand, and how we have gotten to this place.

Thank you Barack!

We can't get better if we don't acknowledge the problems.

peace~

11. Absolutely. He does not lie. He is the only politician in history to never lie.
Ever! That's how he got where he is today! :sarcasm:

12. please read the context of my statement- Lying to oneself
denial- narciscism- justifying doing things that are wrong and bullying others into enabling doing wrong is what I was contrasting his willingness to readily admit 'we' are NOT without error against.

Pres. Obama is very self-effacing. He's been willing to take responsibility for situations that he doesn't 'own' (at least not completely) something Bush could NEVER do- something Bill Clinton couldn't do (though I don't believe he should have been put into the 'definition of "is" "is" situation)

The problem with sarcasm is that if you use it alot, it makes it difficult for anyone to take you seriously- thanks for using the tag.

I have never said Pres. Obama is perfect- but he's proving himself to be a damn fine man.

peace~

14. geez- give me a break- read my post.
i may not have said it well, but i wasn't attempting to say he's never told a lie- I was attempting, (admittedly poorly) to contrast the fact that he doesn't avoid admitting the uncomfortable TRUTH.

There aren't many presidents I can recall who would dare admit our assholery. (cowboy Bush) And not admitting it, or deflecting the issue is lying. I haven't seen Obama do that in terms of our attitude towards other nations over the last several years Have YOU?
