My God! Have you ever witnessed such wining?
Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 11:54 AM by fumsm
They can't take away the bonuses. It illegal. 1st, amendment, or second amendment, or one of the amendments. These people are so blatantly ignorant, and completely out of touch with the rest of the country, it is quite unbelievable.

People are living in the streets, lost their jobs, lost their homes and life savings, and all the repukes (and talking tv bubble-heads) can talk about is whether it is fair or unfair to take our fucking money, millions of it, off millionaires who stole it.

This country will not recover until they are defeated. It is as simple as that.

6. Actually, spell-check is quite satisfied with 'wining'
but if DU ever puts in a syntax-checker or punctuation-checker in place, a lot of people are gonna be S.O.L.

I know people with Masters and PHD's that have trouble spelling. Being a competent speller has nothing to do with ignorance. However, being a nit-picker about it......

40. here's a copy of an article that has it hyphenated
The Nit-Picker helps others in their fight against lice. Her manual skill with lice and nit removal, her knowledge and common-sense approach have benefited schools, summer camps, childcare centers and over 2,000 individuals. The Nit-Picker assists families in their homes in the Boston area and consults to others nationwide.

Whether consulting or engaged in lice and nit removal, Helen takes charge with a calm and structured approach. Her sensitive guidance and support with head lice management empowers others to regain control of their lives.

The Nit-Picker offers the following services:

http://www.thenit-picker.com/

I don't think it really matters. There are pages on "the google" where it is spelled as two words, nit picker, there are pages where it is spelled as one word nitpicker and there are pages where it is hyphenated nit-picker.

don't ya just love the English language?

19. wining versus whining
The first has to do with sour grapes.

The second has to do with....wait a minute....er

The first has to do with fermented grapes.

The second has to do with sour grapes, self pity, etc.

3. Don't take this the wrong way,
but in tghe broader sense, this legislation that taxes these bonuses at 90% is chilling.

What's basically happened is that the government has said, in effect, if they feel you're making too much money, they can confiscate it. Granted, I think these AIG bonuses are ridiculous, but it was the congress that wrote the law that allowed it in the first place, and no one seems to care about the incompetence eminating from Washington.

I think if they can take from AIG today, they can take from us tomorrow, if they so choose, and that's absolutely terrifying.

8. The difference is that this is our money being used
They're entitled to their bonuses. That's their prerogative. But this is tax payer money they're using which isn't providing some sort of service to the country. There can easily be a bill written that no one gets bonus money out of taxpayer funds

But I guess the fact that we have so many Mr. Obvious on this forum (not) doesn't come into play. Maybe they use the possession is 90% of the law rule, whereas they now have our money, so it must be theirs. Some people will never get it.

12. I absolutely agree with the last part...
In general, if a company accepts government money or cedes a portion of control to the government, then the government can set the rules however they see fit.

But to do it after the fact is tyrannical, especially if congress was ignorant enough to write in the allowance of the bonuses to begin with.

24. They must do it after the fact this time
The fact is, since this bailout is unprecedented then it's new legal territory. There must be adjustments made now, not ten years from now or for some future offense. It's unethical, at the very least, to take taxpayer money in the first place right now. It can become illegal now too.

35. The difference with this money is that they took it from US.
They got taxpayer money to dig themselves out of the hole they were in and instead distributed it to their fucking executives as bonuses. You honestly don't see anything wrong with that?

41. Yeah, a lot wrong with that...
but to tax them after the fact when the law was written to allow it is even more asinine.

My point is that Congress is so fucked up right now they don't even know what laws they are passing, and then they sit on high and point fingers at everyone but themselves when they are just as culpable as anyone else.

I was a Chemistry/Forensic Science major. I admit that I should have taken more touchy-feely oriented courses, but I was trying to graduate so I could pay my bills. I leave that stuff to the trust-fundies who can afford to piss away their time.
