SMUD Says Permits Not Taken Out For Toilets

POSTED: 4:08 pm PDT March 20, 2009
UPDATED: 5:47 pm PDT March 20, 2009

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A Placerville pastor said he is getting backlash from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District after he chose to donate portable toilets to the residents of a large tent city in the northern part of downtown Sacramento.

Daryl Wilhite of Krystal Light Ministries said he's willing to move the toilets a few hundred feet away from railroad tracks, but SMUD doesn't seem amenable to that.

SMUD representative Elisabeth Brinton said SMUD and other property owners don't want the portable toilets to remain. The utility district would be liable and at risk, she said, because no permits were taken out for the portable toilets.

snip...
Wilhite said he would return to the camping area to fight with SMUD to keep the portable toilets in place.

6. Thank you babylon,
I hadn't heard about the minister providing them. I know they're costly, 3 for a weekend event cost $350 when we had to look into it recently.

That's Christian charity right there. I'd thought the real thing died out years ago.
