Missouri report on militias, terrorists draws criticism

The Associated Press | A new document meant to help Missouri law enforcement agencies identify militia members or domestic terrorists has drawn criticism for some of the warning signs mentioned.

The Feb. 20 report called "The Modern Militia Movement" mentions such red flags as political bumper stickers for third-party candidates, such as U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president last year; talk of conspiracy theories, such as the plan for a superhighway linking Canada to Mexico; and possession of subversive literature.

"It seems like they want to stifle political thought," said Roger Webb, president of the University of Missouri campus Libertarians. "There are a lot of third parties out there, and none of them express any violence. In fact, if you join the Libertarian Party, one of the things you sign in your membership application is that you don't support violence as a means to any ends."....

I'm of two minds about this:

One, Ron Paul always did oppose the "Homeland Security" bullshit and the war in Iraq. This MIAC is
the same as lumping Greens and the Lefty part of the Democratic Party in with terrorists.

Two, I am enjoying lots of Schadenfreude reading the complaints about this on Free Republic.
Apparently, the Freepers don't like the "TERRA!" scam when it's pointed at *them*. Guess they
don't like the Patriot Act so much now. Snork.

2. It's not generally the people with Ron Paul stickers that I'd worry about
But some of these others, yes I'll admit that I would. Especially those who read the Turner Diaries.

3. They won't acknowledge the home-grown terrorists,
because they're white. Like the Maine dirty bomb case.

4. That article really highlights the differences between us and them.
How many here could imagine living in fear of every single person who didn't share our exact same political, social and religious views? What kind of brain defect must you possess to imagine that terrorists embody anything other than rigid conservative and/or fundamentalist ideals?

Obviously, FReepers, religious fundamentalists and many who consider themselves to be conservatives live in a constant state of terror - exactly the effect the previous Administration was looking to engender among the populace.
