Teacher's Unions protect... good teachers cannot be fired for bad reasons.
Let us not forget, it is not all about bad teachers.

I know this excellent teacher that went to bat against the school's principal.
.. The principal and his/her agents had changed a just passing D grade to an A. The teacher went to the union, exposed what was done, and forced a change. If the teacher had not been protected by the union, that teacher would no doubt had been fired for trying to oppose his/her principal.

There are too many other cases to report

1. This happens more frequently than you hear about.
Just try to fail the star quarterback and see what happens!

The argument that unions make it impossible to get rid of bad teachers is a fallacy. There is a due process procedure for firings and it takes awhile for hearings, appeals, etc.

With so many dedicated and deserving teachers who need the jobs, no one wants a rotten apple to stay in the classroom.

3. As in all Unions, it's bad Management that makes good Unions... I worked as a Union member..

(closed shop for about 35 years) and I would not have wanted it to be non-Union in my work place. But I can tell you that several Departments in my work place were not Union until Management continually harassed these workers, and then I was instrumental in pushing Union in these Departments.

5. Why do we even have principals in the first place?
They're useless and only serve to try to keep teachers from teaching.
