4. 500 out of 10 to negate all of the low scores the usual suspects will provide.....
Edited on Sun Mar-15-09 07:32 PM by FrenchieCat
But that being said, I'll wait till at least 100 days before commenting further.
I'll let the Corporate media invite the grading, rating, berating, manipulating and evaluating prior
to his first 100 days...because that's what they do best.

"God made the world in 7 days, and so Obama should be able to remake the world in 7 weeks!" (GPS Quote)

Oh yeah....and Cheney said we are in danger! :scared:

On the war on terror? 0/10
On education? 0/10

On the economy? 4/10

I'm sure there are other things I could be rating him on, but those 3 trump the rest for me.

Averaged out, that's a 1.33333333.

January 20th to March 15th does not 70 days make.

He'll reach 70 days on March 31st

and 100 days on April 30th.

He therefore has another 46 days or 88% more days than he has already served.

Single payer is off the table. Let down.
Pro bailout. Let down.
Iraq isn't ending definitively. Let down.

He's talking about the AWB, which is the single dumbest thing he could, especially in light of his other let downs. He will be guaranteeing a (R) majority congress in 2 years and a likely (R) president in 4.

Stupid stupid stupid.

24. I was not an Obama supporter. In fact, I still have issues with the way he managed his
campaign and some of his positions on "socially liberal" issues. However, he is the President, that chapter has passed, so that's water under the bridge.

I give him an 8.5--it would be a solid nine if he weren't having so much trouble filling cabinet positions. The fuckup with the British PM's visit is worth a .3 deduction, too. I'm sure that won't be repeated, though. I've made petty deductions for less than dire things, like the whole "finding his voice" biz vis a vis the economy (he's now taking Clinton's advice), but he gets a plus-up for that swell "Non-State of the Union/Address to Congress" thing--that was a Clintonian performance--he got an A+++ from me on that.

I also find his handling of DOD issues pragmatic (that doesn't sit well with most here) and I'm pleased with his "nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel" attitude as well. I think 8.5 is about right, especially since the GOP are working so earnestly to tear him down. Their aim is to put him at 3.3, but despite their most vicious efforts, he's got more than two out of three--very near three out of four-- Americans rooting for him to do well.

I'm one of those who hopes he succeeds, and wishes him the very best.

appointments 7/10
foeign policy, civil rights, international relations 6/10 (would like withdrawal to start sooner and then be complete)
education 3/10
economy 9/10
health care 6/10

That's 31/50

Adding a curve for the mess that Bush got us in and the fact he's done quite a few things through revserals/executive orders - 5 points for the first and 2 for the second - 7 total. Also add 5 points for sticking to campaign promises and having to deal with conservative Dems and Repukes. We're up to 43/50. Round to 9/10 for goodwill, and I still grade him at A-/B+.

38. A 7. He's done a lot of good things, but some things are not on the right track.
He needs to get rid of Geithner. He needs to really confront the military over Iraq and get out. He needs to re-analyze Afghanistan.

As long as we're occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, there's not much chance of the US economy really rebounding or bringing about the change that everybody is praying for.

On the other hand, maybe it has to be done slowly to really get done.

39. A crumbly 7.
He has made some good changes, many of which were sorely needed.

However, he seems to be intent on keeping the political/financial/corporate system largely intact. Trying to preserve it, as it is. That's an enormous mistake which I fear will make me look back and say I was right to be pessimistic. That's why it's crumbly.

and not because I'm asking for miracles. Two of my three major criticisms are about what he has done, not what he has not done.

I think his economic team is a disaster unfolding.

I think his escalation in Afghanistan is wrong and wrong-headed.

I think he has equivocated on the issue of holding the bush gang accountable for their crimes. Every second of delay costs him and us.

First off I would not give anyone a 10. I can find fault in anyone.

A day before the inauguration I probably wouldn't have given him even a 5 to get anything done. He has gone way past my expectations. I guess I'm not foolish enough to expect miracles. Democracy is not necessarily suppose to be easy. He was left with an unprecedented mess.

Now as far as grading certain congress people.......that's a different story.

67. At This Very Early Stage, I'd Give Him a 7ish
I've enjoyed the return to having an articulate person running the country more than anything else. It's nice not having to bear the burden of Bush anymore.

Until I get elected president, I doubt I'd give anyone a 10. I've disagreed with Obama on a few things, but for the most part, I'm well satisfied with his performance.

68. Not enough data.
I'm giving him 6 months before I start giving a rating of any kind. I think that's fair both to him and his admin, as well as fair to us. I do applaud him for some of the things he's done, and I'm disappointed in some things he hasn't done/undone. But again, it's still far too early.

70. Much too early to say
I have been impressed with his calm demeanor and his consistent visibility, but it will take time before we know how his policies have worked.

73. Overall, a 9
I'm not happy about everything, but given how much he's done already to reverse the Bush years, and for sheer leadership ability, he gets a 9 from me.

On most that are at the top of my list (environment, energy, science), a 7 or higher so far. Overall probably a 7 or a bit higher. In no way lower than a 5 on anything. Sometimes when something disappoints me, I realize that he has a hard task.

His DOJ's stance on torture enablers, Rove and the reigning-in of of corporate thieves have left me somewhat cold to his "message of Hope and Change"

85. A two just to get him above the republicans
assuming one is the lowest score. Figure he is taking orders from the same crooks that run both major parties behind the scenes.
