Poll question: Time or Newsweek?
I had not read either of them in a long time, except for an occasional visit to the websites.

Recently, I signed up for Time, just because they sent me such a ridiculously cheap offer. It was something like 52 issues for ten dollars.

So far, I'm not that impressed. The issues are so thin, that I think of the supplemental "magazines" in the Sunday newspapers.

And their most influential "thinker" seems to be Joe Klein. That gets us into some pretty thin gruel.

Is Newsweek any better?

1. Most of the weekly's are slimming down because the ad revenue is down.
This means less articles and less pages for news.. as much splash and ads as possible for ads. Mostly ads for pharmacueticals because people who read Time and Newsweek are probably employed with benefits and because many dr. offices stock them up as reading material.. what better way to "ask your doctor" than to think of it while waiting a ridiculous amt of time to see that dr.

2. you might want to try "The Nation". It's cheap and has lots of good content.

BTW in general, Newsweek is a bit more liberal than Time.

4. I admire The Nation
I even like Sam Waterston.

If they'll give me 52 issues for ten bucks, sign me up! :)

9. $18 per year online subscription. $32 per year for print and online.

btw it's 47 issues for their year. I wish it was ten bucks. But, you can get a month free then cancel. It's part of their offer.

12. Another vote for the Week
It's the only hard-copy magazine I read on a regular basis.

I've had a subscription a few years ever since getting it as a freebie for paying to join Nerve.com

11. I voted for "Time"
Back in the late 50's and early 60's, I used "Time" and "Mad" to help keep me au courant as to world affairs. It was a matter of style rather than substance.

13. I urge you to skip them both.
Get a subscription to Harper's, or The New Yorker, or The Atlantic instead. Try The Nation or The Progressive. Read the film reviews in the Village Voice.

Then go online and order some Emmylou Harris CDs, some Bob Dylan, Hendrix, Vienna Teng, and Lyle Lovett. Anything by Yo Yo Ma and Maria Callas.

You'll be up to date in no time.

16. let's see...
I've got plenty of CDs by Dylan, Hendrix, and Lyle Lovett and Birmingham's Emmylou Harris. Yo Yo Ma and Maria Callas are great, but I don't think I have any of their recordings. And I have no idea who Vienna Teng is. I think I'm pretty up-to-date -- I sprang forward last Saturday night.

17. Hi, Syrinx. I think you've got it together.
You can't really go wrong with Dylan and Hendrix.

14. I had a subscription to Newsweek for over twenty years until they
Hired Karl Rove. I ended my subscription immediately and asked for the remainder of my money back. I don't know if Rove is still writing for them but I could care less. IMO he is a TRAITOR to America and I will have absolutely nothing to do with anyone or anything that has him as part of their service.

15. Neither! Get "The Economist" instead.
Intelligent, opinionated, and great international coverage that is hard to find anywhere else. You may not always agree with it but it has about ten times more substance than Time and Newsweek combined.
