Mom who reported for duty with kids in tow given honorable discharge
"CHARLOTTE, N.C. A North Carolina mother who reported for Army duty with her two young children said Friday she is happy and relieved that the military granted her an honorable discharge.

Lisa Pagan was back home in Davidson on Friday after spending a week at Fort Benning, waiting to learn if she would be put on active duty, possibly facing a tour in Iraq or Afghanistan.

<snip>

Pagan had been fighting the Army since she was recalled to active duty in November 2007, saying she had no one to care for her children.

A former truck driver in the Army, Pagan was recalled four years after being released from active duty, which is allowed under the military's "individual ready reserve" program..."

1. Too much publicity to not give a honorable discharge and it sets a precedent for others. Lisa Pagan
deserves accolades from all who protested Bush's illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It would be nice if some DUer started a "Thank You" letter to Pagan to be signed by all who support her action.

2. Wow, is she lucky
Three months ago, the Bush military would have taken her and the two kids. Slap 'em in khaki, explain which end of the rifle goes "boom," and it's off to Kabul!

4. No, but they'd have forced her to put her kids in foster care
and if she survived her tour of duty, she'd have had one hell of a time getting them back.

5. I had doubts that this would turn out so well
but I'm very happy for Ms. Hagan and her family. If Chimpolini had still been in office, I'm confident that the outcome would have been horrible.
