Why is it we are hearing of so many candidates refusing to serve in the Obama administration? There seem to be many more than usual. Is is that the Obama standards for disclosure and honesty are so stringent? Or are there other reasons?

1. MSNBC has had guests today saying that they need to relax some of...
...the new standards in order to get experienced people. How comforting.

17. The vetting process is pretty intense it seems, but I hope they stick with
the tougher standards, in the long run we will hopefully be better served.

2. Something about rats and sinking ships comes to mind...
The situation is bad enough and the "fix" is improbable enough that nobody wants their hand in it.

3. "Rats and sinking ship," huh??? That's just lovely. How about giving him a chance to clean up
Shrub's big mess. What the hell is wrong with people today on DU? Do you know of someone in possession of magic wand? Want to let us in on the secrets of fixing 8 years of disaster in 7 weeks....because obviously you seem to think that you know better.

10. I'm not critiquing his speed...
I believe two things: 1) This problem is much bigger than most people realize. Fixing it will take years, even withthe BEST plan...and nobody wants their name associated with it. 2) Obama has selected the same idiots who didn't see this coming to fix it. I don't think this path is going to lead to a recovery any time soon. I like a lot of decisions Obama has made so far, but I think he's dead wrong on the economy.

we would all be better off.

16. I'm suggesting that some people are scared of the magnitude ofthe problem and
some don't agree with the strategy. That's not insightful enough for you?

9. You can of course expound on this, yes?
You can of course, with both relevance and precision expound on this beyond mere bumper-sticker statements and allow us your full implication, yes?

19. Damn, man! The blueprints for the ship are being printed and you've already declared it sinking!!
Can we give the man TIME to fail first before we declare him a failure?? Good Lord...

7. My sister works with people in the White House.
Some people can't come because they can't sell their homes and can't afford to come without selling them. It's the economy, stupid.
