Given: Republicans WANT Obama to fail. Question: Will they work to MAKE him fail?
That is the follow-up question I do not see anyone asking.

And what should the consequences be for trying to sabotage the economic recovery and national security of America?

1. Of course they will
They'll use every trick in the book, everything they can steal, lie, pay for or somehow get their hands on. NEVER trust a repuke ever.

2. I think the answer is pretty obvious.
Maybe that's why no one is asking it. Of course they'll work to make Obama fail, and we can see them doing it already.

3. Maybe Repub. leadership wants him to fail, but not all Republicans.
Your header is painting with a rather broad brush IMHO.

4. Republicans are a self-selecting group
They put themselves under that broad brush

9. Which Republican in the House and Senate does not want us to fail?
Every single one in the House voted against him and every single Senator has asked him to only pick judges they approve of, so which one in particular do you believe does not want us to fail?

13. When every 'puke representative votes against a Bill and when all 41 'puke senators
basically threaten the President as what they will do if the "right" kind of judges are not nominated, I ask: are 'pukes really being painted with too broad a brush? :P

7. let's be honest-- republicans probably won't have to make him fail....
All indications are that Obama's current economic plan will fail all by itself. Just my $0.02, of course, but I'm not very hopeful he'll succeed. Republicans won't have much to do with that, even if they try to take "credit" for it.

11. Well the proof will be in the pudding but I think you are wrong
People felt almost exactly the same way when Clinton first took office and look what competent Leadership accomplished.

12. as you say...
...and god knows I'd love to be wrong-- because if I'm right, we're all in for a world of hurt and I suspect that partisanship will be the least of it. If predictions like I've been reading the last few weeks come true, most Americans will be too busy looking for food and shelter to spend much time pointing fingers at politicians.

10. What can they do?
As the minority party in both the House and Senate?

We need to worry about keeping Democrats in line rather than obsess over a group of people with zero political power.

15. No, as evidenced by their recent 'grassroots' movements that drew literally dozens...
...and their de-facto leader speaking before hundreds of /mental patients/ listeners.

They never actully WORK for it; they sit on their Monday Morning Quarterback asses, watching FOXsnooze and posting on their FR homepage, hoping that this fantasy world will bring them the relief they so desperately need from being so g.d. stupid.

b. They hoist their own petards.

16. They already are
and worse, much of the media is piling on. If McCain had won, and taken exactly the same steps to boost the economy (except the budget), the media would be putting a lot more positive spin on things. As it is, they are encouraging additional panic. In that scenario, the DOW would probably be at least 1,000 points higher just because self serving media pundits wouldn't be screaming gloom and doom.
