And just now they are afraid that this will spread north

Guess what? The violence has already spread north

On and these forces, 200,000 soldiers... is a significant force, and this is a force that is expert in GUERRILLA operations

2. Actually the citizens WANT the army

as police forces have been highly ineffective over the last 20 years or so.

Let me see, bad guys have AK,s I have a 38 special

Now the army has carried out some operations that violate all kinds of standards (geneva convention and internal laws) and I do hope some do see the inside of a court martial

Also the army is less corrupt than most police forces

Point is, people have been hiding their heads in the sand for the last twenty years or so. This didn't start yesterday...

4. Well in general people want the army

and the locals usually mistrust the cops

THere are a couple exceptions (the city of Colima comes to mind, better pay, only police force certified to US Standards)

But in general, the army is a better choice
