1. A data set I would be really interested is seeing would be one

that tracks the tone of media coverage in relationship to public approval ratings. Of course both media coverage and approval would be tied to trends in actual events, but tere would be ways of partialling out the covariance. What I'm getting at here is I would like to know just how influential M$M is. I think they've probably been declining in their influence over public opinion in recent years as people get access to and use alternative information sources, particularly online.

2. The GOP would I suppose argue MSM is 'making' people support Obama

If they truly have that much influence, and per the GOP, their coverage of Obama was blatantly skewed toward him. Don't know. I listen to MSM (CNBC) all day long, and they in no way shape or form remotely back Obama. They hate him and his liberal ideals. I still back him. Some people may be influenced because they can't think for themselves (where do you think the GOP get their Constituency from!)
