Unevolved right-wing knuckledragger alert: The mayor of Los Alamitos, CA
AP via San Jose Mercury News:

Mayor sent e-mail with watermelons at White House

The Associated Press
Posted: 02/24/2009 06:23:45 PM PST

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif.—The mayor of Los Alamitos is coming under fire for an e-mail he sent out that depicts the White House lawn planted with watermelons, under the title "No Easter egg hunt this year."

Local businesswoman and city volunteer Keyanus Price, who is black, said Tuesday she received the e-mail from Mayor Dean Grose's personal account on Sunday and wants a public apology.

"I have had plenty of my share of chicken and watermelon and all those kinds of jokes," Price told The Associated Press. "I honestly don't even understand where he was coming from, sending this to me. As a black person receiving something like this from the city-freakin'-mayor—come on."

The Orange County Register first reported the e-mail on its Web site Tuesday night.

Grose confirmed to the AP that he sent the e-mail to Price and said he didn't mean to offend her. He said he was unaware of the racial stereotype that black people like watermelons. ......(more)

2. Unaware of racial stereotype that blacks like watermelons?
Well Mr Mayor, what's the joke if there are watermelons instead of Easter eggs?

Explain it to us.

3. Yah...right. He chose watermelons because they was purdy,
I guess. He didn't know. He's an idiot, and knows nothing about black history at all. You betcha.

4. He owes the WH an apology as well.
Except even an apology would not be sufficient.

Oh, and I see he is a Republican...apparently no learning curve.

5. Man, I can't believe these dumbshits are still doing this crap. But, I'm glad they out themselves.
Racism is really deeply ingrained in these people isn't it?
It is so natural to them that they just can't help themselves.
Aside from that, unfreakingbelievable that he sent this to a black person.
Even more unfreakingbelievable that he is the f'in MAYOR!

Make note: Orange County, CA (i.e., behind the "orange curtain")

6. OK I'll get flamed for this but
Doesn't it impose upon one's freedom as a black person to allow this to be a problem? I get the racism of the email. But then black people have as much right to like watermelon as any other people. IOW, you have to give up watermelon in the quest to avoid stereotypes, and that is letting racists like this dictate your life. A minor point, I know, but it is one of many.

Racists keep getting power from this stuff. How to deal with it is unknown, but we can't let these stereotypes go on forever.

8. I think its all in the generalities
All blacks eat watermelon and chicken
all people from KY marry their cousins
all followers of islam are terrorists

I guess, in my mind, its like southerners flying the confederate flag as a symbol of their "heritage"
when it comes down to it, its a flag that represents a group of rich whites that broke away from america in order to keep slavery alive.
it just has no place in America today

7. I remember Limbaugh saying one time when he was describing a dropped pass
from a football game the weekend before. He said "I bet he wouldn't have dropped it if it had been a watermelon" of course the receiver that dropped the ball was black...Limbaugh truly thought he was being funny.

9. So the mayor of Los Alamitos has spent his entire life in a box? How could someone not be aware of
racial stereotype? Is he like 10 years old?

11. If he was unaware of the stereotype, then what does the card mean?
Where's the joke?

The big problem with racists nowadays is that they won't even admit to their racism.
