"Reduce the capital gains tax" is the newest screed by the Repugnation
Under current law, capital gains tax reverts to 20% in 2010. I saw a clip of Press the Meat and Bobby Gypemall was spewing this right off the bat. Why has NOT a single talking head of the MSM asked them how reducing that one tax is going to help us get out of this depression, and how it will help the middle class? I know the answer, but I'm waiting for someone like Paul Krugman to shoot this full of holes, but no one seems to want to take them on. For as long as I can remember, that's ALWAYS been one of their mantras, eliminate capital gains taxes. Almost every Foreign Nation has high VAT and income taxes, and you just don't hear their 'right wing' screaming about excessive taxation like they do here. 777777777777778 (numbers added by my kitten for effect since she's laying at the base of the keyboard.)

2. Just so the rich theives can continue building wealth and power
Which was why that tax was instituted to begin with to help keep a lid on the money party aristocracy.

3. one should be asking them.....
they keep whining about the deficit, though the absence of concern is notable BEFORE this.... so if we don't go back to a point where we are collecting revenues, how are we going to deal with the deficit!!! oh yeah, i forgot.... that's what the middle class is for.

I'm kind of laughing at this call to raise or lower the capital gains tax. What's the point?

9. income is income. it's immoral that investment income is taxed lower than earned wages.

11. the issue with
capital gains tax is that it is one tax that you can easily avoid:

don't sell the asset = don't incur the tax event.

increasing the tax rate will freeze the money in place and money that in place and money not in motion is just a pile of paper.
