Question - why is Barbara Walters respected while others who commit sexual affairs are not
I mean she had a special on how she carried on an affair with a married senator and she has had many relationships but she is not treated or made fun of like clinton or spitzer or others who actually did good for the citizens or tried to expose fraud on wall street - she comes away unscathed

6. She's got the goods on too many highly placed people. No one's going to give her any shit.
Plus, she's not an elected official -- there's no equivalency.

14. What about Jesse Jackson or Kobe Bryant?
Weren't they damaged by news of affairs? Part of it is that THEY were the married person, whereas Barbara was not. Plus, their careers also continued. So, however, did the political careers of Gingrich and McCain (although I am not sure if Gingrich or Dole had affairs or just divorces.)

She hasn't had sex in three or four decades so she has to sustain herself with her memories.

13. it would seem like the comedians would make jokes they do about the others
I realize she outed herself - I just find it peculiar that she hasn't been part of the media or comedians taking pot shots at people - I mean they still go after clinton

17. She's a grande damn (misspelling deliberate)
Who wants to pick on someone who's that elderly? It wouldn't be funny and it wouldn't serve any comedic purpose. She isn't expected to behave the same way politicians are. She's not elected nor does her salary come from our taxes nor does she answer to us, nor does she make policy. She's a media personality who interviews people and has her politically unimportant show.

16. i dont care about barbara's sex life, it doesnt effect me and happened so long ago BUT
i also dont respect the person who choses to have an affair either. i think it is cowardly and lacks character and integrity. i dont believe in purposely hurting another. i am not into deception and lying. and the person should at the very least have the balls to leave their partner if they NEED, just gotta have another.

but then, what does she care what i think, wink

it an issue and get on with the business of running the country but the media had decided before the wh to pursue him into the corner - I have wondered sometimes if they had not haunted him continually would the same thing have happened - he did get isolated - just a thought -

32. I don't get that - why oh why would anyone get involved with a high profile married man
I can understand it happening in ordinary life but you have to know in a high profile it will become national news so why do these women go into this with these men - not excusing the men - but the women - why are they doing this to themselves - is it the fantasy with power - is that the turn on - even barbara walters did not get the wrath that monica, or that women with edwards while cindy mcCain with John came out with the senator and higher profile social network - so why do some get shunned but others do not - yes I understand it is both people who commit to this abandon and this act and therefore both are responsible for the fall out and the consequences -

If only there was that kind of tenacity to investigate the Bush Crime Family.

26. Still, "committing" an affair isn't a correct use of the word
You may find yourself committed to a person, an employer, religion or cause, but you don't "commit" a romance or a belief.

so I suppose it depends on your use of the term - I respect that you have a different opinion on the word and my usage

35. Spitzer went after the prostitutes, so his hypocrisy was rewarded with a public flogging.
Edwards had a wife who was sick with cancer. People viewed him as untrustworthy and callous and didn't want him governing the populace. Clinton was railroaded by the righties and the Christians. Baba was her own woman, not beholden to the public for their tax dollars. Besides, her job has entailed interviewing many who have fallen from grace along the way, so like Oprah, she basically would get a pass for anything since she's perceived as being the understanding journalist-interviewer. And as others have said, it all happened in biblical times so what's the point in punishing her now?

is Rep. David Vitter, R-LA who likes being swaddled in diapers, doing his dirty deed, and prostitutes changing his diapers.

That's sexy!
