Just Watched "Right America" on HBO
I just watched Alexandra Pelosi's "Right America" on HBO. It left me pretty much unfazed I grew up in the Detroit area with Southern parents who had Southern friends from the right-wing fundamentalist churches that I had to attend. All the shit I heard on the program was the same shit I heard growing up. All the hatred toward big cities, gays, "minorities" and highly educated people is old hat to me. When they dragged me down south or into the sticks of northern Michigan, I got to listen to same "God's country" crap over and over again.

What annoys me is Pelosi's statement that progressives are responsible for understanding the "rest of America" as though they (and I use that word carefully) are completely off the hook and have no obligation to know those of us they distrust. Does she think we never step out the university into the "real world"? I can't help but think Alexandra is the world who doesn't get around much.

1. Funny - I didn't get that impression from Pelosi at all.
When I saw this documentary, I thought "Wow, there are a lot of fucked-up people at McCain-Palin rallies."

I also thought about how much influence right wing radio and Fox News really has on certain parts of America. Of course, Fox news does propagate what some want to hear (cognitive dissonance) as Pelosi had asked one lady in the documentary.

Which came first - the Batshit crazy right winger at the rally (Chicken) or Foxnews propaganda (egg)?

2. I'm watching it now- trying to find some compassion for these racist, ignorant rednecks-
but not having much luck with that. Feeling pretty saddened that there really are people in this country- millions of them, who really do still believe that McCain-Palin would have been a better choice for America- from their hearts. It's terrifying and fascinating (and nauseating) at the same time.

3. I found a copy of it this morning and just got finished watching it
The people in the film are some scary crazy people

We have a lot of work to do to fix this country and after watching that movie and seeing how the right wing talking points are parroted almost verbatim absent of fact, the media situation needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
