And not exactly the most greedy of folks. She's actually one of those fabled Horatio Alger (not the real one who married into wealth but more over the legendary type who made their own fortune) types that truly came from nothing. Unlike many others she does indeed give back.

I do believe she had a huge scholarship program for her humble county in the middle of nowhere that allows all the kids who want to go to college (and have decent grades) the chance to go.

Very charitable. Not too knowledgeable about her politics personally, but she she is much smarter than some would peg her based on appearances.

5. You are right about the scholarship program.

It is in Sevier County. She also buys children books from the time they are born until graduating high school in Sevier County. I live about 75 miles from there and it is a beautiful part of the country. If you have never seen this area you are missing out. She has done alot for Pigeon Forge. She is a very smart and likable person.

She knows that schools are important, but she also knows that many children in poverty (and not) here grow up without a book in the home. No one ever reads to them. They never see someone reading. And she saw that as a huge problem and a huge opportunity to do something about it.

So, she started a program where a child can be registered at birth (or later) and they will receive a monthly book, in the mail, addressed individually to him/her. They are age appropriate and are for the child. Counties can pay for part of the cost and her foundation pays for the rest.

Naturally, the hope is that someone will read those books to the children and that the child will want to learn to read by the time they start school.

She was doing this county by county until our Democratic governor got this adopted as a state program with some state funds committed to it.

Just think, one individual, doing something so important.

My mother had a meeting with her years ago. They were discussing distribution of one of her albums. My mom was telling us how her business persona is a complete opposite of her public persona. She also said that yes they really are that big lol.
