NYPost cartoon protest in NYC

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ny-nycartoon0220-pg,0,309531.photogallery

Brooklyn city council member Letitia James, right, speaks out as New York State Senator Eric Adams stands in front of the New York Post building holding a cartoon that appeared in the Post Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in New York. A New York Post cartoon that some have interpreted as comparing President Barack Obama to a violent chimpanzee gunned down by police drew outrage Wednesday from civil rights leaders and elected officials who said it echoed racist stereotypes of blacks as monkeys (Craig Ruttle, Associated Press / February 19, 2009)

State Sen. Eric Adams and elected officials and community leaders denounce a newspaper cartoon caricature in the New York Post at the offices of the Post at 1211 Sixth Ave in Manhattan. (RJ Mickelson/amNY / February 19, 2009)

2. Oy Vey. The Drama Is Getting Out Of Hand.
Boycott the NYPost? NY Post a racist rag? Total irrational malarkey.

15. Well, the Post is a racist rag
It's a rightwing mouthpiece too. I think the cartoon was more a case of an idiot cartoonist trying desperately to connect anything topical to a slam on the Dems though, and not an overt racist screed.

4. The NY Post was a piece of garbage long before they printed that disgusting cartoon.
All the cartoon did was ensure that anyone who did not realize it, would know now.

5. I dont see it as rascist.
It's poor taste considering the tragedy of the chimp gone wild but since Obama didn't write the stimulus bill it's hard to say the NY Post is referring to him as the monkey. Fortunately the worst days of race based disadvantage are behind us.

7. But most people associate Obama with the Stim Bill; therefore,
it offends most people who view the chimp as a slain Obama.

Isn't wishing death upon the president a crime?

11. Wishing death isnt a crime. Threatening or conspiring is a crime
There are more important things to be offended over. Our side never held back on our hatred of Bush. The Right isnt going to hold their fire either. Better to focus on the issues and ignore the taunts. Let the Secret Service worry about what is a real threat and what's just poor taste.

which really are just word for word talking points that have been released (I heard exactly what you said pretty much word for word on CNN last night from a GOP spokesperson). People like you never respond to any of the rebuttals to these talking points. You simply post then not show your face again for a while. In fact the only post you responded to was mine out of the many others that have been posted. I'm the last person around here to wear a tin foil hat but sometimes I have to wonder. If you don't want to tell me publicly feel free to pm me, I can be quite good at going around the internet posting GOP press releases if the money is good; and I need a job.

13. constructive cartooning input
:sarcasm:

This would have been a much more effective yuk-fest if the cartoonist also drew an Uncle Sam figure with his face and hands chewed off. This would represent the devastation that Obama policies of the last four weeks have had on all good Americans everywhere.

:sarcasm:

I hate it when cartoonists exercise self censorship.

17. NY Post was trying to give the paper away today
As I was walking out of the 86th Street Subway, someone was passing out NY Post papers for free. I didn't take one and most people didn't either.

factoid. It should be an OP really because it is very telling. It means they are scared. It means that a lot of subscriptions were cancelled yesterday. It means they are handing it out free because they want to give the impression on the subways, busses, workplaces, etc. that all is fine and NYers still love the Post....a PR campaign.

I really hope you do an OP on this because it is very signifigant and some might not click on this thread and read the whole way through.
