Burris Now Admits He Tried To Raise Money For Blago

This is getting kind of ridiculous. Roland Burris has now admitted he tried to raise money for Rod Blagojevich, at the request of the former governor's brother.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris has acknowledged he sought to raise campaign funds for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich at the request of the governor's brother at the same time he was making a pitch to be appointed to the Senate seat previously held by President Barack Obama.

Burris' latest comments in Peoria Monday night were the first time he has publicly said he was actively trying to raise money for Blagojevich. Previously Burris has left the impression that he always balked at the issue of raising money for the governor because of his interest in the Senate appointment.

In comments to reporters after appearing at a Democratic dinner, the senator several times contradicted his latest under-oath affidavit that he quietly filed with the Illinois House impeachment panel earlier this month. That affidavit was itself an attempt to clean up his live, sworn testimony to the panel Jan. 8, when he omitted his contacts with several Blagojevich insiders.

sent by the RNC to give them talking points and screw with the Democrats' legislative strength. I know that's not the case but geeze, the way his stories seem to keep changing and getting worse make it look even worse than if it had all come out at once.

If it had all come out at the beginning he never would have been seated and that would have been the end of it.

Knowingly lying under oath used to be a crime, now it doesn't even seem to merit an ethics question anymore.

Who either isn't corrupt or at least understands the importance of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety?

Burris knew he did this when he was busy swearing to the contrary; setting himself up as a moral human being who was merely in proximity to the bad ethical behavior of others; untouched by it and not partcipating in it. If there had not been taped conversations, and Mr. Burris hadn't been told, hey dude, you know you are on this tapes, nobody would have been the wiser to this crook. When Burris believed no one was looking, he was totally cool with the plan to lie to those he sought to represent. All he is now is plain scared that the tapes will be released and his reputation be damaged even beyond what it is now. If it led to his confesion in an effort to pre-empt the blow, I can only imagine that what may have been taped must be just rotten.

I hope there is a way for them to kick him to the curb with a big boot for this.

You knew as well as I did that Burris had to pay some sort of price for his appointment. Sorry, but Illinois should have just waited what, another couple of weeks and they could have had a clean Senator, but noooooo, they had to get all in a hurry and such.
