Crude oil prices continue to go down, but gas at the pump has gone up.
We were told that the price of gas was dependent on the price of oil and that the reason that price of oil had escalated was due to demand. We have been now told that it was solely dependent on speculators that artificially drove up the price. What is the excuse this time for the increase in the price of gas?

The price of gas has a serious impact on work class people and can either make or break the family budget. While we are all concerned about the stimulus package I have heard nothing from the president about this important issue.

Being retire, I am not as affected by the price as some of the people in my neighborhood; many of whom have to drive considerable distances to their jobs.

What it your take on this issue?

1. I was reading about it the other day.
Seems that all at once, a metric shitload of refineries have all of a sudden, quite coincidently and purely by surprise, had to shut down large portions of their gasoline refining capacity for "routine maintenance".

It's just one of those strange concidences. Really. No, really. Would they bullshit us? Pshaw!

2. How else you gonna get to $3.50 by June?
The $1.75 gas was just for the election cycle hoping they could stick us with 4 years of Grampy McSame if they "gave back" a little. What a world.

7. the price of gasoline always goes down before an election and back up
a few months after the election. How much depends on who is in power and who wins the election. Democrats win, it doesn't go so high because they know there will be investigations. Ask Senator Dorgan, D-ND.

3. It takes time to work through the system
Of course, only when the price goes down.

Increases are simultaneous.

10. How so?
I was being sarcastic.

Does it really work that way? If so, then it seems like the individual gas stations and distributors would be making the profits from the price difference and NOT the oil companies and their refineries.
