I agree with Newsmax readers!!!
From an unscientific poll of nearly 90,000 people...

4) In a Republican primary of Newt vs. Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, who would you vote for?
Rudy Giuliani: 17 percent
John McCain: 5 percent
Newt Gingrich: 78 percent
http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2007/3/24/102830.shtml?s=ic

I would love Newt to be the Republican nominee. Why?

While speaker, his approval ratings reached a pitiful 28%...
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1997/04/18/poll/

His favorable/unfavorable ratings are bad...
22%/47% for Gingrich
compared to 57%/21% for Dame Rudy and 51%/22% for Weathervane McCain
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1019

And even Hillary beats him in the general election polls...
Gingrich (43%) Clinton (50%)
Gingrich (38%) Obama (48%)

GO NEWT!!!
:woohoo:

1. There will be a battle to the death in the GOP
between moderates and the real far right. The far right is bound and determined to nominate the most conservative wingnut they can find. The moderates are trying to restore "sanity" (whatever that may be) to the GOP.

Not a whole lot different than what happens here at DU between the moderates and everyone else.

3. Agreed
but the trend, for now at least, is that McCain, Rudy and Newt all have decent name recognition, but Newt polls MUCH, MUCH weaker in general election matchups with Dems. Unfortunately, warmonger Rudy beats most Dems most of the time.

So I hope the conservative wingnut (Newt) gets the nomination, not the slightly less nutty Rudy or McCain.

2. I Love The Possibilities
I agree...nothing would be finer to see Gnewt as the GOOP nominee next year and I'm strongly thinking of hopping the fence if there's still a Repugnican primary battle next year and help the Gnewster along in his quest for the nomination. I strongly believe Gnewt will jump as an Independent if he sees votes/money and create a rift within the GOOP that could render it to major minority status. If I can help in that process, I feel it's my duty.

The waters are ideal for a third party...specifically on the Repugnican side as the "hard" support for the front runner is an inch thick and the "true believers" feel left out. Gnewt is weighing his options carefully, but I expect he'll jump in and make things interesting.
