A sample from the greatest political thinker of all time

If you're not familiar with Kelly's work, I would definitely urge you to try getting your hands on some of his work. Some books are better than others, and picking the wrong one as a first impression can leave you ambivalent at best, and that's a sad thing to contemplate.

I'm amazed how applicable so much of the political themes are - even today. Knowing nothing else of the story before and after the two frames above, the insanely humorous, satirical portrayal of political thinking is so good because it's so accurate - if exaggerated - and, well, spoken by animals that live in a swamp and all have southern accents.

I wish I had more examples - some favorites, but without my books (they're in storage at my mothers house) this at least gives you an indication of the genius that is Kelly. But it's like showing you the left nostril of La Giaconda. Well, maybe that's not the best analogy, but I value both artists equally, albeit differently.

Some people never warm to Walt Kelly or Pogo, those that do usually end up being avid fans.

5. I didn't even notice that Pogo was GONE until I realized that my
son had no idea who (or what) he was! I grew up just thinking of it as part of the landscape, something eternal...
