Vancouver Sun: Former Australian PM still backs Bush

VANCOUVER — No state leader was more unwavering in his support of former U.S. president George W. Bush’s faith in pre-emptive war and the unrestrained free market than former Australian prime minister John Howard.

These days, Bush is considered one of the least popular presidents in history — and the Iraq war and deregulation are out of favour — as the new American administration turns to the soft-power of diplomacy and to Keynesian deficit-financing.

During a visit to Vancouver Monday, Howard said he remains convinced that his ideological mate’s reputation will improve over time.

“I think history will judge him a lot more kindly than the commentariat does at the present time,” said Howard, in an interview prior to delivering a speech sponsored by the conservative Fraser Institute.

Howard's not particularly popular around here. Being anyone's butt boy doesn't go down real well in Aussie culture (my apologies to any actual butt boys here in Oz), but especially being butt boy to someone else's butt boy. And we all know how wide Georgie's anal sphincter was stretched by Cheney and his corporate overlords.
