I recall his Senate bid in Maryland. I can't recall the specifics, but, towards the end of the campaign, Steele did something that was really offensive - something like lining up black people who didn't have a clue as to what they were being paid for to turn out and protest at his Democratic opponent's rallies.

Or something like that. It backfired terribly on Steele.

there must be a playbook somewhere...our new mayor (RW free-market banker fatcat) here came under fire during the race for having some flyers printed up with him and obama like they were buddies or some shit and had them distributed in black communities (nevermind the fact that our mayor said for the record numerous times that he would never vote obama)...and like Ehrlich/Steele, when called out on it, they always have that patent excuse of "I never knew that was going on! I certainly cannot control every single campaign coordinator, worker and volunteer..."

I think that they chose Palin because they needed to trump the "first possible Black President" by having the first female Vice. They had to make it look like they were open minded. Then they had their scape goat if they lost. Why wouldn't they have chosen that lady from Minnesota who was such a big mouth, but actually was a name and had some experience? Well, they didn't want to ruin her Career if the plan backfired.
