Earth to GOP: You are NOT relevant. Go away.
You've gotten your ass kicked in two consecutive elections. The ONLY support you have is from the far religious right, and the penny-pinching neocons. Mainstream America has REJECTED your ideas. You are well on your way to becoming a fringe party, the party of homophobes, racists, bigots, and filthy rich.

Do us a favor. Crawl back under your rocks. You know you don't do very well in the light of day, when your putrid beliefs are exposed for the world to see. We hear you scheming and praying for Obama and the United States to fail, so that you can try to steal control back.

The rest of the world has repudiated you. For the last eight years, we have been embarrassed to call ourselves Americans abroad. When you sit there and actually defend torture, you show yourself to be no fucking better than the worst two-bit dictators around the world.

Go away. Nobody wants you. Go have your fucking Jebus tent revivals and leave the rest of us the hell alone.

1. the media seems to think they're still relevant
they're getting way more coverage for opposing the stimulus bill than their representation in Congress merits... You would think THEY had a veto-proof majority if you watched the coverage.

2. They do a rather good job of making noise. That's about all they can really do.
I guess they think if they whine, cry, and throw a big enough tantrum, the press will cover them, and that Democrats will just give them something to shut them up.

I wonder how long it will take us to realize that we don't need to give them a damned thing?

3. The sad thing is Obama offered them an opportunity to be relevant.
They were offered an opportunity to participate in cleaning up their own mess and they refused it like a pouting child. They seem to embrace the spirit of Rush Limbaugh that would rather see a failed country than a successful Democratic administration. I still have hope but must concede that the Republican congressional leadership is beyond hope. We need another Jim Jeffords to step forward and put country ahead of party and venal political ambition.

4. Successful western democracy is based on the concept
of debate,
To get the strongest possible government a strong opposition is required.
It is a given that the party in power will only do enough to stay in power.
If you have a strong opposition the government will be much harder working.
Human nature also operates in Washington.

5. There is plenty of debate within the Democratic Party itself
We don't need to cater to homophobes, racists, and fatcat corporate types who would love to see slavery reinstated.

6. The Republicans are powerless. They don't have the votes to influence any of our legislation
We can, and should, govern without input from the Republicans.
