Since uninsured people are NOT going to get a transplant, why give your organs to the rich that created the situation. In fact, the rich want you dead so they can harvest. Just take your name off the rolls, until everybody has an equal chance of treatment.

11. How idiotic and uninformed do you have to be to assume that the only people getting transplants are
rich people? I mean, before you make a fool of yourself, you'd think that you'd do some research.

13. Your desire to punish people because they have insurance is suspicious at best.
And if you think everyone with insurance is some golden-spoon richie, they you're a fucking idiot.

18. I have insurance*. It covers transplants. Excuse me while I go swim through my vault of gold coins.

*Yes, Virginia, state-funded insurance for the terminally broke covers transplants.

22. You know that the OP's figure of 50 million potential transplants is spot on
since there are 50 million fucking billionaires awaiting organs right now. Perfect match.

10. I'm insured, and definetly not rich. More importantly, my dad was once on the transplant list....
while he was insured, he is not rich and couldn't "buy" a heart. How many people do you want to kill??

16. MediCal covers transplants. I presume most local equivalents do.
Somebody I know had her pacemaker covered 100%. If she'd neeeded a heart instead, they'd have tried to get her one and covered it if one were available. And she's pretty goddamn poor, since she's too disabled to work and her partner has a rather low paying blue collar job.

24. Damned straight!
Let everyone who's lucky enough to actually get insurance die. You know, like all those greedy SOBs raising three kids on $45,000/year but who get benefits through their UNIONS. Eff 'em. They don't deserve to live because someone else has it worse than they do.

Geez!!! I thought we were supposed to be the fair minded and compassionate Americans. I must not have gotten the memo.

14. I haven't been a potential organ donor since
the Mickey Mantle fiasco. My Wa state drivers license no longer carries the red heart which identifies me as an organ donor...Unfortunately, Mantle's case is far from unique.. It's become obvious those with money, power and privilege are moved to the top of the list for available organs. I choose not to participate.

25. My Mom may need a liver someday.
She's hardly rich, or powerful. She's just a really nice lady who happens to be very sick.

Refusing to donate organs you'll no longer need when you die doesn't punish anybody but patients who will either suffer or die without a transplant.

17. My mother got a heart
Medicaid paid for her hospital stay except for the day of the transplant. The hospital donated that day, the doctor donated the transplant. Medicare and Medicaid paid for most of the rest of her medical care for ten years.

21. The original poster has a point though he is wrong....
Only because every life is worth saving. That said, have you never seen a donation jar in a local store for normal folks thrown into destitution trying to get a son/daughter/friend enough cash to pull one off? Do you remember Andy Stephenson dying because although we raised 50K here a hospital delayed treatment when E-Bay froze his account? Personally, if one of my children was dying of an infected molar, I'd be hard pressed to provide "upscale" antibiotics...

We are approaching a class war and every tactic may need to be examined. This one I reject at this moment. But I do not reject it lightly or for all time.

31. That's a great idea, let's let a bunch of innocent people die to prove a point.
or maybe we could go about trying to fix the problem by providing health care to the uninsured.
