Grumbling in Rudy camp over Judy
Grumbling in Giuliani camp follows revelation of wife's second previous marriage

Rudolph Giuliani's wife, Judith, will ``continue to play an important role'' in his presidential campaign, his spokesman said -- despite grumbling from within the ex-mayor's circle that her involvement is creating tensions in the organization.

(snip)

``She's going to continue to play an important role in the campaign, traveling with her husband, introducing him at various events, and at the appropriate time, doing her own travel -- and helping people see Rudy Giuliani as the man that he is,'' McKeon said.

In private statements, some Giuliani loyalists said she directly intervenes with senior staff -- who have been with him for many years -- on matters from scheduling to event planning and use of personnel, sometimes in ways that the staffers might wish to resist but dare not.

``She's, uh, feisty, as they say,'' said a supporter, a one-time aide. ``She will be the most media-covered first lady of them all -- you can be sure of it. This is going to be one big opera. The staff people go a little nuts. They can't say anything.''

(snip)

Staffers for Barbara Walters were preparing Friday to interview the couple next week for an installment of the TV show ``20/20.''

6. I'm wondering about that too.
It was billed as a "bombshell" yesterday, but IMHO, it qualifies as a bombshell only if it was news to Rude-E.

3. repub Family Values
Are you listening Mr. Gore? The Presidency is yours for the taking.

Watch for Rudy's #'s to come back to earth once the so-called "moral" conservatives learn more about his background.

8. I'm not sure that conservatives really care about his marriages
Most of the people I know who are fundamentalists have a "colorful" past themselves. I think the fact that Rudy is very authoritarian trumps every thing else. I also think the fact that Rudy is perceived as having been an anti-minority mayor (strong on crime issues will be the code words) will help him with some voters. I wish it weren't so, but I think it is.

4. Judy is a joke, la da da... There was a gossip item about her some weeks ago
Saying that her Rethug audience at an event were rolling their eyes at her speech. She said something about how she, as a (nurse?), found it easy to get fat cats to answer her calls for her pet projects with the message, "Mrs Rudy GIULIANI." She also said (wrongly) that somebody donated 200,000 computers, when she meant $200,000 worth (paraphrasing from memory).

5. This article refers to that
Judith 'not ready for prime time'

It was supposed to be Judith Giuliani's grand debut on the presidential stage.

First a speech introducing her husband to more than 1,000 supporters, followed by a round of interviews with the New York press.

But things did not go as planned.

(snip)

Introducing the GOP front-runner to the packed crowd, she made many observers wince as she rambled on about her first dates with Giuliani (he was married at the time) and her ability as "Judith Giuliani" to get the rich and powerful to take her calls and donate money to her pet causes.

Hank Sheinkopf, a political consultant who watched the video of the Manhattan fund-raiser, said Judith's debut "was not first-ladylike" and that the political ways of New York aren't always going to translate into a national campaign.

"Her speech made her and him sound like local ward heelers that are fixers, not visionary," said Sheinkopf. "Her performance said that she has a mind of her own, and they are not thinking large. Presidential campaigns are different from mayoral campaigns. You have to think large."

7. I've seen Barbara Walters
on The View talking about her friendship with Judy, saying how wonderful she is, defending the estrangement between Rudy and his kids over her ("kids get jealous in step-families"), and talking about their mahvelous luncheons as great gal pals. This WILL NOT be an interview but a campaign commercial with Ms. Walters a hostess/emcee.

ABC comes to the rescue again in the myth that is September 11th.
