Our society is in a downward spiral. Obama is a shining light. What he MUST do -
He needs to lead the way by vigorously pushing his well thought out ideas hard, using his political capital. I think we are seeing a true dip in our society - and there are many contributors (fundamental religions and the ties to the right wing, greed - especially amongst leaders in big business, apathy coming from numbing worthless TV and manufactured "news"). I have no idea how we will get out of this - the economy, the wars, just watching the news - PBS newshour, on how we "can't" meet Obama's newly stated mileage goals...

We've become a lazy, can't do country. The last 8 years have numbed people into lethargy and apathy. The damage of Bush and Cheney are incredibly underestimated, I think.

If I were Obama, I'd forget some of the bridge building. I'd forget playing nice. I'd take my magnificent brain, ideas and team and for the good of the country - if we are to have any decent future at all - and LEAD. And PUSH. and SHOVE things through. He will have the people with him, and eventually the momentum will sweep the Rushes and Boners and Hannities and McCains under the bus, and they will just diminish in their stupidity, ignorance and insignificance.

2. Why would we expect any of..
our representatives to do the right thing now? There has to be an effort to get people to at the very least email, or call the person who is voting their future away.

Publicly displayed are the same souls that walk the halls of The Capital Building.

The solutions that are at their disposal, simple solutions really, are ignored, while they try and reinvent the wheel. At least 23 states are on the verge of Bankruptcy, but instead of having the second tranche of BailOut monies go directly to the 50 states, the BailOut monies will continue to go to the Wall Street insider financial outfits, who help only themselves.

If the states were helped, then schoolteachers, firefighters, EMTs, social workers, accoutants, social workers, legal providers etc, would remain employed. This would be far more democratic than a major Construction bill. How many people in their forties and fifties want to wield a jack hammer in order to stay employed?
