Presidential Smokers.
Seems to be a lot of discussion regarding Obama's smoking. He's in very good company (and some not so good.). I figured I'd post a list of tobacco using POTUS's to assuage the curious. This is not a discussion about the virtues of smoking or not smoking, just a list:

2. John Adams, 1797-1801 A cigar man

4. James Madison, 1809-17 Also a stogie-lover

6. John Quincy Adams, 1825-29 Yet another cigar man

7. Andrew Jackson, 1829-37 Liked a cigar, but more so chewing tobacco

8. Martin Van Buren, 1837-41 All about the pipe

9. William Henry Harrison, 1841 Pipe guy too

10. John Tyler, 1841-45 Cigars

12. Zachary Taylor, 1849-50 Cigars too

17. Andrew Johnson, 1865-69 Liked cigars

18. Ulysses Simpson Grant, 1869-77 Cigar fiend, rumored to smoke 20 stogies a day

21. Chester Alan Arthur, 1881-85 Cigars

22. Grover Cleveland, 1885-89 Chew

23. Benjamin Harrison, 1889-93 Cigar

24. Grover Cleveland, 1893-97 Continued to chew

25. William McKinley, 1897-1901 Obsessive secret smoker of cigars behind closed doors

27. William Howard Taft, 1909-13 At 300 hundred pounds he quit cigar smoking when he reached office, which may have resulted in even further weight gain

29. Warren Gamaliel Harding, 1921-23 Cigars

30. Calvin Coolidge, 1923-29 Liked to use cigars as a prop to punctuate political discussions

31. Herbert Clark Hoover, 1929-33 Incessant smoker of high-end cigars

32. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1933-45 Finally, a cigarette guy and our first chain smoker president

34. Dwight David Eisenhower, 1953-61 Cigarettes

35. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1961-63 Cigars and cigarettes (loved Cubans) and it's reported Jackie O went through 3 packs of Salems a day

36. Lyndon Baines Johnson, 1963-69 Cigars and the occasional rolled cigarette

37. Richard Milhous Nixon, 1969-74 The occasional cigar

38. Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr , 1974-77 Nonstop pipe smoker

42. William Jefferson Clinton, 1993- 2001 Cigar smoker (no cracks :) )

44. President Elect Barack Obama - Now we all know this guy was and maybe still is a smoker, but that picture passed around the internet was a fake:

1. As long as he doesn't light up WHILE he's tagging the Oval Office
it's fine with me.

It's so funny the president is being ribbed for this. Shows you how little they have to use on him. :)

2. Thanks for the information
I know that Lincoln was considered unusual because he was one of the few politicians of his time NOT to use tobacco.

I could see how the stress of the office would make Obama fall off the wagon, especially since he quit so recently.

3. so most presidents, of course we aren't sure that Obama is smoking
from what I've read he's quitting or trying to quit. More power to him.

4. I don't give 2 hoots if Obama smokes, the important

11. Any idiot
who smokes should be slapped. Twice. The president smoking is a bad example for stupid kids, who then imitate it. If you're in favor of big tobacco so much, just send your money directly to them. You might avoid cancer that way.

I hardly think we're dealing with someone who is smarter than 5th grader (or a 5-year-old come to think of it.)

As someone who recently quit I really have to laugh at his level of stupid.

Screw cancer, this clown's stupid is terminal.

7. Chain-smoking coronas or panatelas would do it
Coronas and panatelas are 5-1/2 to 6 inches long. If you started smoking cigars right after breakfast, took half an hour off for lunch and an hour for dinner, and smoked until bedtime, you could probably get through a box of cigars.

If he was smoking lonsdales, churchills or clemenceaus at over 7 inches, there's no way he could have smoked a box of cigars a day.

8. Is this just a list of smokers while in office?
I believe I read that dubya was a smoker at some point in his life. The following list contains his name (12 down) and Laura's name: http://www.nndb.com/lists/862/000128478/

15. Interesting! Even John Adams and John Q. Adams --
(That "no cracks" line was a little over the top though.)

But look, even John Adams and John Q. Adams smoked - a couple of old-fashioned, cultured, educated, well-born Presidents (from Massachusetts too!)

Of course today's flip-flopped, chest-shaved, iPod-wearing, bed-headed "sexting" kids like to think they're "all that" and that anyone who lived before they were born was ipso facto a wimp. Think again, snot-noses. The Adamses were more "real men" than any of you will ever be.
