Behind the narrative echoed by the GOP-controlled media.
I just voted on the CNN poll asking if closing Gitmo is "too soon" and it got me thinking about the narrative playing out on the GOP-controlled media.

There seems to be two messages repeated: Limpball's "I want Obama to fail" and "Gitmo prisoners are coming to America."

But, I know there's something behind both of them.

First off, I don't believe the narrative was planned back in 1996 along with the PNAC's Iraq invasion. However, I suspect the current narratives are extensions of previous myths the GOP loves to tell.

The first one is the "you're with us or against us" crap. Limpball's "I want Obama to fail" crap is just another way to say "liberals hate America" and "republicans have values."

The second one, the "Gitmo prisoners are coming to America" is similar to the lie that only the GOP can protect the country. One of Dumbass' first bumper stickers prior to the run-up to the invasion of Iraq was "we're going to fight them over there, so we don't have to fight them here."

I don't believe any of their myths, but the GOP controls the media, hence they control the narrative.

Whether you agree with my suspicions or not, one thing is undeniable: the GOP won't give up power without a fight. They may have lost power due to all those elected offices they no longer hold, but they still control the courts, the schools and the media.

Granted, we can communicate outside traditional venues and share news and information mostly free from their lies and suppression, but with control of the media the GOP can cultivate doubt. Not the good kind of doubt based on facts and skepticism, but doubt based on those lies they love to repeat.

This post is not so much an "argument" for the idea that the GOP-controlled media are lying, but more of a request for opinions on the accuracy of information being provided by the fourth estate.

1. They're still catapaulting the propaganda.
I find the idea that AQ prisoners are more of a danger than U.S. civilian prisoners moronic, but the morons are falling for it.

It's going to be quite a show if the MSM enablers and NeoCons don't use up all their best material in the first ten days.

4. And that's only if any of them are a danger to anyone.
That's another part of the myth.

2. I dont know but
if GOP controlles the media then they would always stay in power and Obama certainly would not be the president.
And it certainly helps if limbau is GOP spokesman,I mean can you imagine winning any election with limbaus ideas!
I think it would be better if Obama would only talk to limbau and bypass the excisting GOP politicians. That should really piss off GOP!

5. Not really.
I don't think controlling the media necessarily guarantees electoral victory. However, the GOP controls the media during a time when TV's changing from analog to digital and more and more communications are moving from earth-based to satellite-based. Not to mention reliance more on the internets for communications, which currently is mostly unregulated.

What we know now may not hold true after the changes are complete.

Sure, we won the White House and more seats in Congress, but every one of those offices is held accountable and subject to term limits. With 5 or 6 corporations controlling the vast majority of news and information outlets it might seem easier to oversee what they do, but they will outlast the accountability of any one President.

As far as Obama talking to Limpballs and ignoring the elected GOPers, that would be interesting to see, although, I don't know if your prediction would come to pass!

3. If we can't pressure Congress into busting up the media monopolies
we can be assured of monolithic, right wing framing for the next 8 years..

6. Yup.
The thing I fear the most is seeing an Ann Coulter book sourced in a high school text.
