So far SO GREAT, Obama! Keep making me sorry I doubted you!
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 01:57 PM by tom_paine
OK, so I was one of the ones who became increasingly concerned during the pre-inauguration run-up about how Obama would govern.

I always said it was crazy to jump to conclusions because the man hadn't yet governed a day, and in America is is always crazy to trust the "vibe" being put out by the Corporate Toady American M$M, so I kept my feet on the ground, in spite of those concerns.

Not stuff like Warren, though I shared the LGBT communtiy's anger at their feelings of betrayal, but stuff like the appointment of Corpro-Shill Gupta and the talk of reforming SS and Medicare, which smacked of Bushevism (but no, Obama is for raising the cap! HUZZAH!).

The jury is still out. It will be for many months, even years, on whether Obama is the man we think he is and need him to be.

But right out of the blocks I see that he is acting boldly and forcefully, in a very Jeffersonian style, to reverse this Bushie "reign of witches" that has befuddled our nation really pretty much unbroken for the past 28 years, getting worse, more criminal, and more tyrannical each time we let the criminals escape with no consequences to plan their next fraud and theft.

Quickly, all the blah blah blah and "what will he do?" flew out the window as he IS doing and FAST.

So, a :patriot: Constitution and America-loving HUZZAH! for Obama's first week of work in cleaning the stench out of the Oval Office.

Does this mean I have 100% reversed course and will now crush anyone who dares criticize Obama? No way. Let's us DUers leave that kind of stupid asshollery to the Hannidiots and Savage Weiners of the world.

Let Obama be criticized where it is warranted. We finally have a man who might actually listen if enough of us cry out.

But I posted all the bad shit I was worrying over, so let me say that has swiftly been countered by his decisive opening moves.

If he continues onward in this decisive, Jeffersonian vane, followed by a vigorous investigation and prosecution of Bushie Crimes (it doesn't have to be ALL of them or even most, but at least ONE and preferably a few of the more egregious treasons - even if they are prosecuted as some lesser crime), then he IS the man we thought he was and need him to be!

GOBAMA! Keep making me sorry I doubted you!

I will continue to watch carefully and criticize Obama where I think it's warranted. That's just being an informed citizen of an strong democratic-republic. Obama would understand.

And we should all of us refrain from making final judgments too early. Like all politicians, watch what he DOES, not what he says, in evaluating.

More wait and see, but with a more positive hope maybe than since Jan 1961! Think about it. True, no?

2. I am impressed so far and am also
a bit of a cynic when it comes to politicians.

My respect for President Obama grows each day it seems. So this is what hope feels like! :woohoo:

4. Even more than his great oratory, his immediate 'getting down to business' inspires.
seeing how much he's done in his first couple days in office, more than anything he's said, makes me want to get off my butt and participate.

Election Day.

I worked two small towns in SE PA which were and apparently I have been told still ARE semi-Klan-active towns.

Well, I walked around those towns all day, with my chest stuck out and proud, my Obama Doorhangers conspicuously on my arm. My feet hurting like hell but knowing it was in the best of causes.

8 hours. I busted my hump that day. Crisscrossed both town, hill towns with plenty of up and down walking to smash the knees and ankles. I walked about 6 or 7 miles that day, and left roughly 150 doorhangers representing roughly 200-250 Obama voters in two town with a combined population of 4,500 tops. And NOT one racist prick deemed fit to say one thing to me or make the tiniest of noises in my direction. My job was not talking to people, that is more of a election runup thing, but I exceeded my mandate, talked to about four dozen people during the course of my hanging doorhangers all day, buttonholed a few undecides and in a couple cases, I think I converted a couple on-the-fence people to vote Obama. Quite a satisfying day.

You know what? It couldn't have turned out better if I tried. The next day, when I went out to Field HQ to help my Field Co-Ordinator clean out the office, he informed me that we WON those 2 towns, and that the campaign was shocked and described it a "very racist country".

I believe I can claim some small part of having helped to make that happen. Yeah, give Obama a little credit, too.

Anyway, so I WILL be getting back off the bench and into the fray, but for now it's time to rest and  !

We did OUR job, time for Obama to do his! And it looks like that is just what he is about to do!

HUZZAH!

5. I'm amused that some freeper-types...
... are still trying to get the "empty suit" meme to stick. It should be obvious to all by now, even to those who don't share Obama's politics, that he is far from an "empty suit".

bit of sense anymore?

Why?

BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO! It's like the Bushie Followers' Mentality has ZERO historical knowledge and ZERO inquisitivenes and ZERO questioning.

Ever talked to these fuckers? I have talked extensively to at least a dozen in the last 8 years, in depth. It's like talking to a Nazi about the Jews, most of them. Batshit loony and thick as a brick. If Michael Savage told them "1+1=3" they'd start believing it the next day. I am exaggerating here but only a tiny bit. Far tineirt than you would believe.

Find some Fox-watching weak-minded Bushie and try to have a rational converstaion with them. Keep the Nazi analogy in mind, and see in your mind's eye the predecessor of the Freeper, making shit up and repeating Nazi Lies to support positions that are insane. It's quite visible, once you know what you are looking at.

Nothing less that the psychological and "kinder and genlter" mental reincarnation of the Nazi and KKK mindset, and I am not speak about their racism, but about their critical thinking skills.

In critical thinking skill, a Bushie Follower and a Nazi Follower are 100% identical. It's quite creepy.

Anyway, I said a lot to make a simple point. Nothing the RW Lie Machine says HAS to make any sense to get their weak-minded drones to buy it, no matter how crazy or contray to simple common sense, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE, THE BENEFIT OF THE BUSHIE TARGET AUDIENCE BEING NAZIS OR PERHAPS NOT-SEES IS THE BETTER WORD.

board.

I'm happy you're happy I'm happy, though.

Are you happy I'm happy you're happy?

;-) Just kidding.

In all seriousness, though, we as a nation have so far to go and so many trials and tribulations still to come just climbing back out of the hole 28 years of pretty much unbroken Bushevism and the occasional respite into Bushevik-Lite. Sorry, Big Dog, you old triangulator, but a Moderate Republican President is what you were, as good as you were at it.

We have a tough, bumpy ride ahead, almost certainly. We will unhappy and then happy again 50 or 100 more times before it is through, and that's if everything turns out for the best!

Buck up, though, we humans are resilient creatures!

20. Obama is "FOR Raising the Cap"?
Are you sure?
The last time I heard him speaking about this, he sounded all wobbly and definitely NOT committed to this course of action. In fact, cutting benefits was still On the Table.

Please cite where Obama has said he will Raise the Cap.
I desperately want to hear him say this.
It is the only SS Reform I (or any REAL Democrat) can support.

24. Well, it's certainly a wait and see situation. Actions, not words, count here.
But here is a link describing what you insist he has not said. Now, given the pathetic condition of the Corporate M$M, it'as crazy to 100% trust that is the case simply because the American M$M said it was so.

Nonetheless, here's a link.

http://www.newsday.com/news/columnists/ny-saul6010336ja...

But actions, not words count. I agree he has become less specific recently. It may well be that he doesn't wish to open this other can of worms at this moment because of priorities. Maybe he doesn't want this otherissue to become a Bushified Distraction to be used to cudgel him with about thing going on right now.

You KNOW that's how the Bushiganda Propaganda Machine and Lie Laundry works, so it's not out of the question.

In either case, we must watch actions and forget the words. And just as doing so quickly expose to the Bushies as criminals and frauds, so may doing so eventually show Obama to have been a strategic genius (note I say "MAY" here, as the future is as yet unwritten).

And I think we pretty totally agree on what the nature of SS reform has to be.

23. Thanks for this post!
I get so tired of seeing all the complaints on DU, and the man hasn't even had a full week in charge yet! I think he is doing a great job so far and like you I may not agree on some things, but we need to give him a chance, and let him decide his priorities, and how he will get the needed votes to pass the bills that will give us the change this country needs! Thanks again.
