| Why is the media just focusing on released Gitmo prisoners? |
|
I have not watched any cable news whatsoever in the last 4 years except for Kieth and now Rachel. But my new Fios system doesn't have MSNBC because of some weird contract thing in New York with cablevision. So when I am desperate to see some news, I look for the least of the evils on cable and broadcast networks. I put on NBC yesterday and Brian Williams was talking to David (dance with Karl Rove) Gregory AND I WANTED TO JUMP THROUGH THE TV AND SMACK THEM BOTH IN THE HEAD! They blathered on and on about Obama closing the prison within one year, the two released Gitmo prisoners and how they were back working for the terrorists and you could see they were just trying to scare the living shit out of less informed viewers. I sat there SEETHING waiting for them to talk about how the torture in Gitmo is a terrorist recruiting tool, ect. but they just harped on the two guys let out during bush's regime!!! and then Gregory closed with some lame line like....."and some people are wondering how can Obama do this?" As I scanned a few other newscasts it was the same slanted fucking coverage! Am I wrong or is the media is just continuing bush's bullshit scare tactics even though he's gone?!?!

| 1. It's certainly not a coincidence... |
|
Presumably the guys that the B*sh Admin released were deemed either not dangerous, or untry-able. If it was the latter it is the result of inadmissable evidence collected by torture.. If it's the former.. they are all terrorists that George Bush created..
The Right Wing Wurlitzer is no longer tearing their orders off the White House faxes.. They are now getting them directly from the FORMER admin miscreants...

| 3. This is why I've been harping on media reform for 4 years -- |
|
we MUST reinstate restrictions on consolidated media ownership, as well as the Fairness Doctrine.

| 4. I take the point of your post as the most important here- what about the other prisons. |

I could see why they only spoke of Gitmo before the Inauguration, but it's now time to talk about Diego Carcia, Egypt, Romania, possibly Azerbaijan, maybe Georgia - wherever there has been references to their wonderful coalition partners.
The one I paid the most attention to was Diego Garcia because the U.S. bought it from the British and all the inhabitants of the entire island group were kicked out of all the islands and they ended up in Africa, homeless refugees. (If I remember it correctly.)
Military bases and torture prisons - that's why 4.3 trillion were stolen from the DOD?
I wonder how many people are stupified by all the secret meetings and negotiations it took to set up the prisons, stock them - including torture materials - making it look like dungeons, making it look they were below the ground - buried? I am imagining this, but they all were all so tragic-comic in all their dealings with us. Rumsfeld making the press chuckle over and over. Cheney with his droning one tone super size pretend seriousness.
What just amazes me is that these prisoners were transferred in LEAR JETS!!!! Do people know what that means? These jets are CEO jets. These prisoners were blindfolded - they never saw daylight - and they were probably manacled to the floor. They probably were put through agony just to take care of body needs.
Then, we had colaition partners who allowed these corporate jets to land and fuel in their coutnry. Including IRELAND. I will never feel the same about that country. Did the people say OK. I'm sure they didn't even know about it at the beginning. It hit the news later on. Were there any street protests? Another proof that the leader to leader dealings are the worst thing going on in this world.
All those prisons must come to light. The only reason Gitmo is talked about is because Rumsfeld had it set up so that a few Rights associations could get in and inspect, then a few lawyers, a few IMBEDDED reporters.
A blight on mankind brought by the United States of America. If our new leaders don't start talking about it by the end of February, we must. I say give them diplomatic time and if it is still covered up - prove that they don't exist or spill the beans. This is a human being catostrophe.
