An odd picture with a not-at-all funny back story

This Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 photograph provided by the Colorado National Monument shows a 1987 Dodge van that got stuck on a rock overhang , near Grand Junction, Colo., after the driver sent the vehicle off a cliff in an apparent suicide attempt. The 34-year-old male driver survived the incident. But park officials said that 27 people attempted suicide at the national monument last year, which has prompted administrators to train staff at entrances and visitor centers in suicide prevention.

1. OMG - that guy was serious
Will he take this miraculous event as a clue that it wasn't quite his time to go?

If you're going to kill yourself by driving off a cliff, you do NOT wear the safety belt!

:eyes:

(I'm glad he survived; there's a purpose in life for him after all. Hopefully the purpose was not to get his yuppie van teetering off a big rock...)

4. Yuppi Van? SUV? Dudes!
That is a 1981 (or thereabouts) dodge/plymoth extention van. The extra-long kind that were used to haul around church groups in my callow youth. It's built like a tank. He probably couldn't have killed his silly ass in it had it rolled all the way to the bottom of the gorge.

They used to make them outta steel in America. I probably owe my life to old Detroit over-building. He certainly does.
