Obama skips Medal of Honor Ball! Freepers OUTRAGED!
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 03:37 AM by ColbertWatcher
The Cleveland Leader dutifully documents Obama's absence at the "Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball." Noting when the first was held, which Presidents have attended in the past, and the traditional reason for holding it.

The "Leader" also names all the celebrities at the other balls, ending the piece with,
It was the party without all of the celebrities that Obama skipped. The very people who he sought to have support him during his candidacy and campaign, who have fought to protect this country, were snubbed in favor of publicity and the opportunity to rub shoulders - yet again - with the out-of-touch Hollywood elite.

The one detail "Julie" (the writer excuse me submitter of the piece) failed to mention was not missed by a Farker, "Hender," who posted at 2009-01-23 01:49:48 PM), that the event had been canceled.

Gee, I wonder what the morans will be bleating about this weekend?

--------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE1:

It seems there might be something to this, however, I have not been able to verify it with any legitimate source. If anyone can find any information on when and where the 2009 "Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball" was held (or pictures from the event) I'd appreciate it.

--------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE2:

Apparently a blogger on barackobama.com attended the American Legion "Salute The Heroes" Ball and blogged about it.

2. Lol can't say im surprised...............
Freepers will whine, bitch, cry, kick and scream at every little thing Obama does. It doesn't matter what it is, if in their delusional little minds they believe Obama is being unpatriotic in some way they will be all over it.

7. Yeah, they'll find any reason to whine.
Here's a link to a tube that sold tickets to all the balls neither one is listed: http://www.greatseats.com/inauguration/inauguration_tic...

14. Close to 60 "inaugural balls" on that list -- about 10 labelled "official." It couldn't possibly
take less that 15 minutes to walk in, dance with his wife, walk out, and get to the next venue: that adds up to at least 14 hours for just making appearances, if he'd gone to all those "inaugural balls"

I bet his wife, however a good sport she is, would have tried to strangle him if he'd asked her to pull some marathon like that

And really, I can't imagine going from one ball to another could really take less than 30 minutes: he's got to move a convoy to go anywhere: so even getting to all the "official" balls would probably be five or six hours of work

23. There's a picture around here somewhere of the Obamas in a service elevator
with four or five SS guys. They're basically holding each other up, smiling but you can tell it's late in the third shift.

8. Barack and Michelle went to one military themed ball, the CIC's Ball.
He didn't skip anything. They went to ten different venues that night. Who do the little freeps think he is, Fred Astaire?

10. Yes, I watched MSNBC's coverage of that and heard the crowd's response.
Very welcoming.

Also, it seems "Julie" was correct (http://isaacs.newsvine.mobi/_news/2009/01/23/2345799-ob... ), but I am sure this is all we'll hear about all weekend long.

19. It is hard to fathom just how tall Michelle Obama really is
I don't think Shrub and Laura would have actually DANCED with plain old dogface soldiers like the Obamas are.

9. If Julie's going to make an ass of herself maybe she shouldn't do it so publicly.
Thanks for the link. I'm enjoying the amens and smackdowns in the comments section.

FWIW, I think the Cleveland Leader is actually a rightwing blog masquerading as a rightwing newspaper. Looks like the print version was last published in 1917.

15. There is usually just a tad of truth to this kind of myth.
Good debunking at the site you linked. I guess it was hard to get around with 1.8 million people attending the inauguration. I think there were around 350,000 there 4 years ago.

18. Oops, the Joint chiefs skipped the Presidential booth at the parade
A row of empty chairs labeled "Joint Chiefs" stood behind President Obama during the Inaugeration parade. The pussy generals would pop in one at a time to salute their own troops as they marched by and then they left.

I thought it was a REAL shitty performance by our Military leadership. Furthermore, I am SICK of their incessant demands for hero and warrior worship. I am no sure the mandatory fuss over our soldiers has a positive impact on our society.

The military is supposed to be subordinate to civil authority. This is out of whack like so many other things in our country.

20. "hero and warrior worship"? Well, as a matter of fact, the vast majority of Medals of Honor ...
... (and most other medals of valor) are awarded for SAVING lives. Folks often forget this ... if they ever knew it.

21. I was speaking about the public tempo the past 8 years
It has been considered a cardnal sin to question or criticise the troops. Eveyone, it seems, trips all over themselves to to worship at the alter of the troops anymore. There is a huge difference between "supporting the troops" and disagreeing with policy.

Republicans call this the bloodless or peaceful transfer of power. I happen to think it would be a good thing to shoot a general every now and again. They take so much and give so little. Lord knows the little people get killed and maimed every day.

and ..... fuck your stupid insult too "if they ever knew it" what is that supposed to mean?

24. My question is "Did the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee report on this?"
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 04:15 PM by 1776Forever
Yes there was an Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC) that coordinates military ceremonial support to inaugural activities. The Commander in Chiefs Ball is mentioned on this site.

http://www.afic.northcom.mil /

There was an Armed Services Ball called the Commander in Chief's Ball:

01/20/2009 - President Barack Obama speaks during the Commander in Chief's Ball in downtown Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009. More than 5,000 men and women in uniform are providing military ceremonial support to the presidential inauguration, a tradition dating back to George Washington's 1789 inauguration.

...........

The President was surrounded by Military personnel at this ball and had a televised report from Iraq it looks like. Both he and the First Lady also danced with some of the troops. Looks like someone dropped the "ball" and the two should have been combined or should have been visited either way.

Also - here is the list of "Official Balls" from the Presidential Inauguration.com site:

http://www.presidential-inauguration.com/index.php?opti...

Official Balls

The Inaugural Balls listed below have been set up by the Presidential Inaugural Committee for the 2009 Inauguration of Barack Obama.

Biden Home States Inaugural Ball
Commander-in-Chief Ball
Eastern Inaugural Ball
Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball
Midwestern Inaugural Ball
Neighborhood Inaugural Ball
Obama Home States Inaugural Ball
Southern Inaugural Ball
Western Inaugural Ball
Youth Inaugural Ball

.......

There is also a list of "unofficial balls" and the funny thing here is the 'Salute to Heroes Ball' is not listed there either? Odd - looks like a set-up to me.

Hi ColbertWatcher - thanks for bringing this to our attention.
