Obama skips Medal of Honor Ball! Freepers OUTRAGED!

The Cleveland Leader dutifully documents Obama's absence at the "Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball." Noting when the first was held, which Presidents have attended in the past, and the traditional reason for holding it.

The "Leader" also names all the celebrities at the other balls, ending the piece with,

It was the party without all of the celebrities that Obama skipped. The very people who he sought to have support him during his candidacy and campaign, who have fought to protect this country, were snubbed in favor of publicity and the opportunity to rub shoulders - yet again - with the out-of-touch Hollywood elite.

The one detail "Julie" (the writer excuse me submitter of the piece) failed to mention was not missed by a Farker, "Hender," who posted at 2009-01-23 01:49:48 PM), that the event had been canceled.

Gee, I wonder what the morans will be bleating about this weekend?

UPDATE1:

It seems there might be something to this, however, I have not been able to verify it with any legitimate source. If anyone can find any information on when and where the 2009 "Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball" was held (or pictures from the event) I'd appreciate it.

take less that 15 minutes to walk in, dance with his wife, walk out, and get to the next venue: that adds up to at least 14 hours for just making appearances, if he'd gone to all those "inaugural balls"

I bet his wife, however a good sport she is, would have tried to strangle him if he'd asked her to pull some marathon like that

And really, I can't imagine going from one ball to another could really take less than 30 minutes: he's got to move a convoy to go anywhere: so even getting to all the "official" balls would probably be five or six hours of work

A row of empty chairs labeled "Joint Chiefs" stood behind President Obama during the Inaugeration parade. The pussy generals would pop in one at a time to salute their own troops as they marched by and then they left.

I thought it was a REAL shitty performance by our Military leadership. Furthermore, I am SICK of their incessant demands for hero and warrior worship. I am no sure the mandatory fuss over our soldiers has a positive impact on our society.

The military is supposed to be subordinate to civil authority. This is out of whack like so many other things in our country.

It has been considered a cardnal sin to question or criticise the troops. Eveyone, it seems, trips all over themselves to to worship at the alter of the troops anymore. There is a huge difference between "supporting the troops" and disagreeing with policy.

Republicans call this the bloodless or peaceful transfer of power. I happen to think it would be a good thing to shoot a general every now and again. They take so much and give so little. Lord knows the little people get killed and maimed every day.

Yes there was an Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC) that coordinates military ceremonial support to inaugural activities. The Commander in Chiefs Ball is mentioned on this site.

The President was surrounded by Military personnel at this ball and had a televised report from Iraq it looks like. Both he and the First Lady also danced with some of the troops. Looks like someone dropped the "ball" and the two should have been combined or should have been visited either way.
