Man, 80, charged with making moonshine

An 80-year-old man who lives west of High Point was charged with making moonshine.

On Monday, Davidson County Sheriff's Office detectives went to 1109 Oak St. in the Wallburg community about a complaint that alcohol was being manufactured from an illegal liquor still.

Detectives found an operational liquor still and approximately two gallons of non-tax paid liquor, according to the sheriff's office.

1. The Beginning, in my opinion, of the end of the dream of American Freedom, began with the Whiskey
Rebellion. In my opinion, this was when the Federal Government overstepped its power by enforcing the Whiskey Tax. For Personal, and local community consumption, the Federal Government should have no say. Now the State Government, in my opinion can enforce such a tax, but neither the State, nor the Federal Government should control Tribal Lands, and they should be treated as foreign nations.

Anyway, was this a state crime? I attempted to google, but being late, and full of excuses, that is all the further I went.

Anyway. It is a shame that Freedom is still illegal. We still live in a fascist police state. If you cross the line, and you ain't family or friends, too bad for you, and to bad for this fellow.

2. I agree with one caveat..
During Prohibition there was some deadly moonshine sold. Making it for yourself and your friends is one thing. Making it for profit is something else.

10. It's still being made for a profit.
And unfortunately, some of it is still filled with contaminants. I was surprised to find out that this was still happening on a commercial scale, but I watched a TV program about it last week that followed agents around as they sought out illegal stills. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the show or the channel it was on, but the irritating editing style makes me think it must have been the History channel or Discovery or something similar.

7. Believe it or not, It's a Federal Crime to make ANY amount
Mostly the tax issue but also:

It's common for idiots to make still condensers from car radiators

or to solder the still together with lead solder

Both will cause toxic lead to leach into the product

I was just doing research on this the other night

6. What could he get? Tops $10 a 1/2 gallon. It had to have taken him hours to distill that
Not including making the mash. I think it is an 80 yr old man's hobby. Leave him alone.

8. Why not let the moonshiners distill booze for energy purposes?
Instead of shutting down the stills, the (ex-)moonshiners can convert the stills to manufacture ethanol for fuel in their cars instead of their stomachs.
