About the Tice revelation on Olbermann,
I've been reading comments on dailykos and here about it, and haven't once seen any mention of spying on Wall Street. Wouldn't it be rather advantageous to monitor those phone/fax/emails for the Bushco wallets? Also it would take away their claim that "we didn't forsee the collapse" of the housing market.
Of course this is in addition to the advantages they sought by monitoring the news agencies and possibly congress.

2. Also the candidates...Kerry, for one.
Why not all the Democrats? Weak Republicans that might cross the aisle? There is no end to their list, I'm sure. Probably DU, too.

3. All of the above
it has always astonished me how naive the "if you're not doing anything wrong, why cares if they spy on you" argument that so many brain-dead have used.

Insider trading? Corporate spying? just the tiny tip o' the iceberg, imho.

it's just all so disgusting, and I hope it ends with such a thunderous roar that it will have, at least, served that very one purpose -- "Never again!"

9. Another thought..this program was apparently
started before 9/11. Wouldn't they have picked up on the phone calls from the people who commandeered the planes and the people directing the operations and supplying the funds for it?

11. Sorry if this is going o/t a bit, but I don't want to start a whole thread
about it ..... does anyone remember Bush spying on UN members pre-Iraq?

"Details of the aggressive surveillance operation, which involves interception of the home and office telephones and the emails of UN delegates in New York, are revealed in a document leaked to The Observer."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/mar/02/usa.iraq

Seems to be the only way he could be sure of moving things his way, both domestically and for Iraq.

12. That was one among various possible abuses
Would you doubt the real possibility on another 'enemies list' gathered under the guise of national security? Much like Nixon's WH plumbers, it is entirely believable that BushCo operated much the same way. It was secretive, exclusive, and insulated by a code of trust. Some of Nixon's own young plumbers were active in the Bush Admin. Cheney, for one. The data gathered was put on disks and now resides 'who knows where'. It could have data on any of us, or all of us. Tice indicates that the eavesdropping was not limited to foiling terrorists or their funding channels. There were no limits at all really, but we all knew that.

15. Very possible. Almost likely.
What living human being does not have skeletons or secrets? Nobody alive. The new technology allows the compromise of anyone and everyone. Big Brother is always watching and listening. What does that foretell of our society today? Nothing good. It's come to this inevitably.

i'm saying even if she had been "compromised" her actions are unpatriotic, complicit in bush crimes, and unbecoming of a congressperson sworn to uphold the constitution.

Who else did they spy on illegally and what was done with the information?

How much of the data was used for political gain?

More importantly - will Obama allow a full investigation - NO MATTER WHERE IT LEADS?

20. What was most disturbing to me was that he felt threatened by the FBI
What a sad state of affairs when a citizen who has not broken the law is being harassed by the FBI. His only crime is that he is a loyal American citizen who has dared to speak out about the abuse of power by those who have sworn to uphold the Constitution. The abuse of power by the Republicans certainly did not start with Bush & Cheney, but began with the election of Nixon and intensified by Reagan and the Bush bastards.

24. If Anything They'd Monitor To Make Sure Nothing Is Done
This is soooooo damn Nixonian...and Orwellian. As many of us suspected, and Mr. Tice began to describe...this regime tapped phones for their own political ends. Be assured anyone who was a critic was put on "the list"...from having their calls monitored to their travel screwed up (no fly list...that's gotta go!!) to probably spying on not only Democrats (too natural), but diplomats and others as well. Now the big question is what did they do with this "intel"...was it used to slime someone. Time will tell. I suspect Tice is just the first of others who will come forward with the specifics now that the boooosh regime has been vanquished.

The last place they'd do any snooping would be Wall Street. If there was any, it was to prevent any type of regulation or scandal that would upset the applecart, but if that was the case, it was yet another regime failure. This regime profitted greatly from the bubbles and when they burst, they either tried to paper it over or throw money at the problem to make it go away.
