3. He was President
It doesn't hurt to have a do-over. Roberts apologized. I'm sure he was willing to do it again.

14. Even better, it shuts down the RW nutjobs.
Now they can't be poisoning the discourse.

However, there is little doubt they'll latch onto something just as important in no time at all.

5. Because Justice Roberts Screwed Up?
Shit, I wouldn't mind if our President takes the oath once a day - everyday.

7. Can't hurt.
It's something that takes maybe a fifteen minute appointment in the Oval Office, and should suffice to shut up any freeper whack-jobs who would try to scream and yell about it and imply that Obama's not really the President.

Besides, IIRC, just after the ceremony, Obama signed a written oath, which should satisfy any Constitutional oath requirements.

To any freepers who want to make an issue of this: HE'S YOUR NEW PRESIDENT, YOU RACIST FUCKS!!! GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!

15. I think Roberts fumbled when it came to saying Hussein.
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 08:09 PM by blogslut
It's pretty customary when delivering an oath, word by word, to wait in pause after oath-taker says his/her name.

Roberts didn't do that. He said:

ROBERTS: "I, Barack Hussein Obama..."

OBAMA: "I, Barack..."

ROBERTS: "... do solemnly swear..."

Personally I think he was agog at having just said the name "Barack Hussein Obama" and jumped to the "do solemnly swear" part. Whether he freaked because he's racist hater fanboy or because teh awesome scrambled his wee brain, we may never know.
