Sadly, there are some people here who, no matter what Obama does,
will still attack him. On his first day in office, he's drafted an order to shut down Gitmo within a year, he's placed GLBT rights front and center under the civil rights tag at the White House website, he's rescinded the executive order shielding presidential papers from the public, he's put a hold on all midnight executive orders issued by bush, he's halted the prosecutions of Gitmo inmates and more.

And there are still people whining about how he's this center right guy whose policies really aren't that different from what came before.

3. He also won't allow people who work in his administration to
ever be lobbyists of his administration. And, put a halt to chimpy's regulation orders he signed near the end of his occupation.

Busy and impressive.

There are also some who will praise him no matter what he does.
And a whole lot of people who watch what he does and decide on each action whether they approve or disapprove, without making a decision as to Obama's overall success or failure yet.

Diversity. That's what makes DU cool. :)

My head was honestly spinning from everything that he accomplished today. He called the Palestinian President -- FIRST. If that doesn't thaw some of these malcontents hearts - nothing will.

14. DU is certainly a place for dissenters-
And there seems to be a good share of those around. It would be nice to see people try to strike a balance between a watchful eye, which is needed no matter who is in office, and the attack mode posture I see many Duers display.

The things I've seen so far from the Obama era are very encouraging and I'm looking forward to the next 4 years like I haven't look forward in a long time.

19. Already Exceeding my expectations
President Obama has been in office less than 36 hours already he's doing good work.

I know at times I will disagree with Obama - he is, after all, not me - but so far, so good!

20. how foolish to suppose everyone has the same priorities as you
. . . and that all of the disparate needs and concerns from the myriads of regions in America were suddenly met and resolved by noon Jan. 20.

This is yet another disgusting attempt to stifle or devalue dissent to the policies or intentions of the new president. I can't believe you're not getting paid for this.

23. There are a few like that who have never gottten over the primaries, but overall I think
most people here will give him a fair shot. Some will have legit reasons to not like what he's doing on some issues, but will like other things he does. I think most everybody here thinks that he's a big improvement over what we had or could have had.

. . . or you have a health concern you can't afford; or if you lost your job; or if you are still struggling for your constitutional rights . . . and you want to hold this administration's feet to the fire . . . according to you, you're 'sad and petty.'

29. the "logic" here
Critics say "Obama should do such and such."

Cali says "STFU you whiny pouting complaining mentally defective idiots, and support Obama!"

Obama does such and such, as the critics called for.

Cali now switches her position to get into alignment with Obama, and expresses support for that which she previously opposed, and says "see! I was right and you were wrong!"

Uh, no, Cali, that would mean we were right and you were wrong.

Do you think any elected officials would do anything if there were no pressure to do so? Do you think there could ever be any public pressure if none of us spoke out? You have attacked everyone (not much of an exaggeration) when they spoke out.

For all we know, Obama staffers watched the discussion and said "Cali doesn't know what she is talking about, and the people she is attacking make a lot more sense than she does. We should listen to them and not to her."
