Enjoy the next 8 years pig face, you're gonna need lots of Oxycontin and weekly sex tours of the Orient to tolerate the pain.

(edited to add the word 'racist')

10. I agree and disagree
If he was just going to argue and talk about policy, that would be one thing. But who here believes, even for a moment, that Rush and his ilk wont let their inner racist come through and say something incredibly stupid and unfeeling. I give him about a week before that happens. I know plenty of conservatives who are not racists and Rush has been pissing them off lately. The 'magic negro' crap and saying that he hopes Obama fails. We may just see, maybe not an end to but a time when people will be embarassed to be caught listening to his crap.

garbage, racism, hatred and prepubescent-level 'jokes'... this is his element.

3. I predict that the next 8 years will see the demise of the public persona
of people like Rush, O'Reilly and Ann Coulter. Look for Rush to be caught trying to lure young boys with drugs. Ann will most likely be discovered on her bathroom floor after choking on her own bile. Bill'o will be found buried alive in his garage under a pile of his left over books.

4. Limbaugh has failed in his life's work
Failed big time. He had the reins. He had the audience. He had the money backing him. He had Dick Cheney's personal support on his show. He had Clear Channel paying him the big bucks to just run his bilious spewing hatred and lies. He had virtually no opposition and yet he failed miserably. Joseph Goebbels would fire him.

If Limbaugh failed so badly with everything going in his favor then he's less than effective now. Like Bush he will soon find out that his base won't back a loser. He may hang around for a while, but the man has lost his teeth and can't bite anymore.

11. I expected that - but - how is he a failure?
He has a new target for at least the next 4 years. He has Hillary in the spotlight. He will probably have Bill as a spotlighted target. He has millions of listeners. He has a pile of money. He is invited to the White House for lunch. He is widely recognized. His name is one of the most recognizable.

Heck no - I despise the guy. But I do not see him as a failure.

13. He won't be invited to the White House for lunch now
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 07:55 AM by treestar
And as for influence, he has none, or McCrook would be in office now and Bush would be popular.

The nation is now sick of his kind of crap, so he can take all his millions due to his "success" and retire.

Which makes the point of his being a failure. His goal is not realized and the nation is going in the other direction of his goal.

So it is possible to have lots of money and be a failure, just like it is possible to be a drug addict and a "success." The two things aren't completely congruent.

16. well - I would certainly argue that he probably would prefer
lunch at the White House with junior, than with Obama.

I would further argue that his personal goals are not necessarily those that seem most obvious. He is better as an attack-dog - and that plays better with a progressive Dem in the WH, not McCain.

He is a greedy pig - and a successful one.

15. So you think being rich makes him a success at his job of shoring up the
neo con agenda? That was his job you know. That's why he was paid so much. He was supposed to destroy the Democrats and any opposition to Bush. Remember his treatment of Michael J. Fox?

He may be rich and in your eyes that might be a raging success, but he failed at the job he was paid to do. But like CEOs who are failures, he'll get a pass, though he'll become more and more irrelevant.

31. Look for this to be "renegotiated" soon.
Clear channel is losing money hand over fist.

Eventually someone in the corporate bean counter suite will mention cutting off the shrinking demographic and he will be cut. Either that or pictures of him with underaged kids will surface and he will be PeeWee'd into history.

5. I've listened to Rush since the early 1990's...
I listened to him, because I think it's sometimes helpful to understand the arguments
against you. I also felt that he was more powerful and influential than most assumed.

I hate every single thing the bastard says. He sickens me. However, the man is talented
at what he does. He's an artful manipulator, truth distorter and communicator.

I've always said that they only way to make Rush obsolete is by making hate and hate-wing
radio a joke. And the only way to do that is with a leader who brings people together
and makes it fashionable to be reasonable, compassionate, compromising and wise. Currently,
being a loud-mouth hater and a divisive ass is popular.

Obama is the one who can do this. He can make Limbaugh obsolete. Remember how the President (yeah,
I can call him President now!) said it's time to put childish things in the past (I'm paraphrasing)?

I think Obama will appeal to our better angels. He'll galvanize this nation and show us how change
really can happen when we work together--all of us.

The haters and the liars will look like the fools that they are.

6. Prediction: He Won't Make The Next 8 Years...
Besides his abuse of his health, his days of being a radio bloviator will soon come to an end. It won't happen overnight, and he won't go quietly, but go he will. Radio's economic collapse has really hurt hate radio...revenues, which were fair at best...have all but vanished (many companies avoid controversial shows), ontop of both the overall implosion of radio revenues and the station values themselves. Soon stations will go dark...including many of Rushbo's small market affiliates...or go to religious or other money making formats.

The novelty of hate radio has long worn off. If anything, last election was a repudiation of the "genre" as the least acceptable repugnican candidate won their nomination (despite all of the hot air thrown around) and then were a non-factor in the general election (they sure didn't do much to help Sarah Barracuda). The medium's vile drove away all but the most rabid wingnuts and it continues to veer hard right...definitely not attracting any new listeners.

The day is coming when we'll look at Rushbo like a Father Coughlin.

Cheers...

17. Only if you believe that money trumps everything else in life
Recall the saying, "Money can't buy you love."? It really doesn't no matter how much luxury you surround yourself with. No matter how many sex partners you buy. If having money makes him happy in that profound way that having loved ones around does, for example, then he's a happy man.

21. Limbaugh has done more to unite the Democrats than many Democrats have done.
I can't foresee the future, but I am of the opinion that he will continue to have a sizable audience that will be made up of radical Evangelicals and out right racists. They are the same ones who get their distorted views from FOX.

Rush Limbaugh is like so many Bible Thumping preachers who are taking the ignorant slops that listen to them for a ride. He is just another charlatan fleecing the ignorant bastards. With an increasing number of these people home-schooling their brainwashed urchins he is assured of an audience for years to come. You only have to watch "Jesus Camp" to appreciate this fact. If these kids were educated in a public or even private school with their peers the attempt to indoctrinate them would be counterbalanced. These kids are being raised in vacuum.

I am really concerned about what affect this will have on so many young people when they are compelled to associate with young people who have actually been educated rather than indoctrinated. It could be a shattering awakening that most people don't think that the world wasn't created 6,000 years ago and that their peers regard them as little more than laughable ignoramuses.
