I'm thrilled to see and hear what it means for African American people in particular, to see tears of joy on their faces, to hear John Lewis
say that it was 'worth the pain, the suffering, the beatings, the jailings'. I want my white son to grow up in a country with a black president, so that he won't be burdened with stupid prejudicial ideas as he grows. I'm thrilled that he will know these days, and we have sat together watching the celebrations and talking about Martin Luther King.
What would the media be saying if Obama wasn't black but we still had 2 million people gathering at the inauguration, enthusiastic and ready for change? Would they then have to recognize that the 8 years of failed Republican policies were being vehemently rejected?
The two themes have been 1) isn't it remarkable that we've come so far to elect a black president and 2) tomorrow the bipartisan good feelings will start to die out and the Republicans will be there to stand up for the principles of small government.
Ha.
Ken Blackwell was trotted out on CNN for his thoughts.. not about Obama's politics with which he would DISAGREE, nor about Ken's corruption and ties to convicted frausters like Bob Noe, but about race.
It reminds me of what they did to MLK's legacy -- erased the parts they didn't like, his pacifism and poverty focus.
I wonder what it would be like to watch this without the filters of the media. Let people see the enthusiasm of those 2 million people and the grace and presence of our new President at the swearing in.
