To All California DUers
If you know a blind or disabled person, please check on them starting Feb. 1. The State of California is cutting off all aid to them on that date. They will be without money or caregivers as of that date because California will be out of money.

I am a full-time caregiver for my disabled father. Thankfully, he is a federal retiree and will not be affected, but I am quite concerned for those without family who are in the state system. If you can help, please do so. Thank you so much for reading this.

would be interested in hearing about this if she hasn't already. Thanks.

is Schwarzenegger still receiving a paycheck?

7. Arnold doesn't take a paycheck
and it's really our asinine legislature - along with a constitutional requirement that all taxation changes get a 2/3 majority vote - that's the holdup.

20. Just another way to cut public services repub style
The service cut include education, social services, elderly and disabled. Gov't employees loosing their jobs are on the lowest level.

As soon as they can cut enought services, arnie will pass a budget.

They disgust me.

18. That's noble of Arnold but reminds me that

President Hoover didn't take a paycheck, either. Will there be "Arnoldvilles" in California soon?

21. It's not noble of arnie, just politically savy
and I'm sure he makes up for the lack of salary with all kinds of nice fees and things.

I just talked with a social worker about being a caregiver for my mother. Why would she talk to me if they don't want me as a caregiver?

This really sucks, but I was being a caregiver to my mother anyway, without a state check and I will continue. Although, a state check would really help.

12. I don't get paid
but social workers always try to get the caregiver paid. In my case, my dad's pension is too high for me to get paid. Hopefully, the CA money woes won't last forever, and you might be able to get paid in the future. Also, some caregivers are paid by the county, not the state, so the social worker might know of a county program that still has money.

10. I'm giving this a needed K & R
Those who are without sight are penalized again and again in our society.

Most people rely on cars, the blind need public transportation or a network of family and friends.

13. I've been helping a friend whose main source of income is disability.
This is horrible. It will put sick people out on the streets.

If this happens, I will personally help to pay to keep my friend in his apartment. This is very dark and worrisome.

15. So the most vulnerable will suffer for the state's budget problems.
The people with the fewest options and the least ability to go out and find help will be the ones to take the hit.

:(

That's true republican compassion.

I am grateful that we have a bumper in the bank that should see us through.
Shame on Schwarzenegger for vetoeing the last budget. He reminds me of that jacka$$ in DC (up till last Friday, that is....)who vetoed the children's medical bill. Shameless. My district voted overwhelmingly against Schwartzenegger in the last election. For that I am proud.

27. After living here 30 years, I suspect that an "11th hour" solution will be found..
Our governator/legislature likes to play "kamikaze budget" every few years.. They huff & pus and threaten, but in the end, someone always backs down, and they fund things..

It's hard to believe that pre-Reagan Calif had PLENTY of money and even free-college..:(
