I guess you can say, "They deserve it" to the jerk ass employers
Three weeks ago my wife's company decided to cut ten hours a week off all their employee's hours (except management of course) and not because they needed to, from what my wife's boss told her and many others was they were doing it because they could and if nobody liked it they could quit. This week they lost two major clients due to lengthy delays in getting their orders and/or having to wait an extra day. She just told me at lunch how slow work was today and her boss is shitting all over himself and saying to them that if they don't get back at least one of those clients then not only will the shorter hours be needed now, they might have to lay someone off.

Oh yeah...but it's all the worker's fault, not his and the rest of management for their piss poor decisions three weeks ago.

1. Yeah ain't it amazing?
When a company stumbles it's always the worker's fault but when a company prospers only management gets the credit and rewards? What an upside down world we live in.

Hope your wife makes out ok on this.

2. Is the company a publicly traded company?
If so, then they have to answer their shareholders, and the BoD should cut 90% of their managerial salary until they get their clients back.

But once the clients are gone, they are gone for good. That's just my opinion.

7. I believe it is however...
My wife has worked there a long time and they have always come up with some of the most stupid BS you can imagine when it comes to marketing and daily operations. It's like those movies where the bored, CEO's wife thinks up all kinds of stupid stuff and wants him to make his employees do it. One time they wanted all people in shipping and deliveries to poll the customers on how they could get more of their business and when they brought the customers suggestions to the boss he would say, "they don't know what they're talking about". Unless he thinks of something, everybody else's ideas are stupid.

Her boss is the biggest kiss ass out of all their stores and warehouses so he'll probably get a pass on this screw up.

4. I've worked in companies like that, and they usually stay dumb.
For some reason, companies that have this kind of mindset of the management seldom improve. They are always hell-holes for the workers. Stress permeates the environment. Fuckem.

8. I have too
During slow times they've always laid off the highest paid and most qualified people only to lose more customers with bad and poorly qualified employees and lawsuits for poor work or damages. One company I worked at is so well known for this that when they do need to hire people they have to use a P.O. box # because so many people in the trade know who they are and won't bother applying if they see the company's name, phone or fax # or street address.

6. Since the boss doesn't need the workers he should try doing the work himself
Instead of pissing his pants. Doesn't know how to? Uups!

9. I would try to find...
the companies who picked up the business and ask the production manager, sales manager, whatever if they need help with these new accounts.

Something along the lines of-- "I used to get along really well with Acme's warehouse manager, Sal, and I miss working with the guy..."

10. Management doesn't give a rat's behind.
I worked for Blue Cross quite a few years back. The day I decided to quit was the morning I was introduced to the new hire for training.

This particular "trainee" was hired in at 5 full pay grades ahead of me, because of a college diploma. I was ready to leave anyway, but it sure opened my eyes as to how much management valued my experience.

11. Happened to me once and I did the same thing
The guy (we had to train) was actually bragging to all of us that our boss said he was paying him more because, "people like me don't come around often" and the boss told us it was none of our business what he was paying the guy. Which was true but times were better then and those of us that quit were hired by his competitors the next day.
