Lesbian couple to join Obama train ride

Cleveland lesbian Lisa Hazirjian and her partner Michelle will be among about 40 guests of the Obama family as they take a historic train ride Saturday from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. for Tuesday's inauguration. Hazirjian, who helped organize support for Obama during the Ohio primary, said she – like so many thousands of other campaign supporters – tried unsuccessfully to get tickets to the inauguration and was "speechless" on New Year's Eve when she got a call from the Presidential Inauguration Committee, inviting her to be a guest of the president-elect on the train ride and for a number of inaugural events. While the invitation did not designate her as an LGBT representative, Hazirjian said she believes each of the 16 people who got the phone invitations "were chosen because we collectively represent the grassroots nature of the campaign, the diversity of people involved, and the diversity of the citizenry of this nation."
