Coleman is casting wider net for votes
Coleman is casting wider net for votes

His requests are frustrating county elections officials, who are being asked to produce thousands of documents.

In their fight to overturn the U.S. Senate recount, Norm Coleman's legal team has begun pressing some Minnesota counties for documents on hundreds of thousands of ballots that were not previously disputed.

The lawsuit that Coleman filed last week to erase DFLer Al Franken's 225-vote lead cites a few dozen specific ballot errors that he says favored Franken. But Coleman's camp is also now casting a much wider net for other mistakes that could cost Franken votes.

The latest requests, dealing with approved absentee ballots and precinct voter rosters, are frustrating some counties. "You're talking 30,000, 40,000 pages of documents," said Stearns County elections chief Dave Walz, referring to his county alone. Joe Mansky, Ramsey County's election director, said the county has received requests for copies of "over 200,000 pieces of paper" from the campaigns.

Coleman's new strategy comes as some elections officials are expressing skepticism over his campaign's unproven assumptions that some votes were counted twice and that some absentee ballots were wrongly rejected or accepted.

6. Will his requests be questioned by a judge and in fact can previously accepted votes be voided?
Would he like very single vote cast in the state to be examined one by one to see if any hint of preference for him might exist? And what judge would allow that? At some point the counting is done, all votes cast have been tallied to the best of the state's ability - that was done in a most open manner for the world to watch. Now it is time to name a winner and let him take his rightful seat.

and I right now say hold a "run off"? election why not it would shut Normie up what could he say and save the courts alot of time to boot and you know what at this point Al Franken would win by a landslide

9. Since you live in MN you already know that MN law has no provision for a runoff.
If this were the other way around we would expect Franken to scratch and claw and use the courts in order to win. Like it or not, Coleman has the same right and he is well within his rights to do so. Have patience and allow this process to play out under MN law.

13. Check out this MN election:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_gubernatorial_election,_1962

Minnesota's 1962 gubernatorial election was the closest statewide race in Minnesota history. The election was held on November 6, 1962 but the results were not known until March 21, 1963. After recounts and court challenges, it was determined that then-Lieutenant Governor Karl Rolvaag, DFL had defeated Governor Elmer L. Andersen, Republican by 91 votes out of nearly 1.3 million cast. Rolvaag collected 619,842 votes to Andersen's 619,751.

At that time Governors and Lt. Governors were elected on separate ballots. That explains why the incumbent governor was a Republican while the lt. governor was a Democrat. The 1962 election was also the first four year term election for Minnesota governor.

A runoff election will not help this race now. If MN wants to embrace 3rd party candidacies, then they should recognize that this is a possible result.
